Well, although I am relieved to see it's not just me with these issues (that cursor jumping around stuff drives me nuts!!). I think I'll start re-directing emails from most people to Gmail or Hotmail and keep the Yahoo account for the spammers.

Free Yahoo mail does support IMAP (POP3 supposedly is also supported but must first be enabled in the Yahoo account settings, I haven't yet tried that).
I have a couple Yahoo addys I use on some occasions for throwaway purposes.
I set one of them up a few mins ago in Thunderbird in IMAP mode.
Thunderbird has an auto configuration feature that doesn't always pick up the right settings, but it did in this case.
Enter your name, e-mail addy, and password ... click Continue ... select IMAP when Thunderbird shows the choice of settings for either IMAP or POP3. Couldn't be easier.
Personally, I *never* leave important personal e-mail on the host server, which largely puts it out of my direct control. It's *my* data, I want it stored safely and securely on *my* computer. Messages in server-side folders in IMAP mode can be drag/dropped to a Local Folder in Thunderbird to download them off Yahoo.
