Christfr, Nice find on the "new" Maytag Wringer. The red agitator has a nice shine. Do you plan to use the clunker's agitator ? The red one is in such nice shape. No matter what you decide, I am glad were able to find a Maytag that looks to be plug and play. Best of luck with it.

It's older than a 1957
I found an old post where Kenmore71 decoded S/N by age and he states that Wringers made between 1945 and 1953 used a 6 digit number followed by only 1 letter. Then models from 1954 - 1983 used a letter proceeding the numbers, So S/N 141634N is before 1954. The thread didn't say how to decode the old ones. But since yours has that swanky red agitator the puts it somewhere between 1950 and 1953.

OOHHHH THATS EVEN BETTER. ha ha i promise i will be good the machine and keep the red agi. thats the best part. i did find the polish and will try and mess with that again this weekend. cant wait to do a nice hot load of towels ye ha

About the lid,
I don't really know. Mine was made in June 1964 and the underside of the lid was "untreated". Whenever I see pictures of these new one's, never used, 1983 models, both sides of the lid are painted. That's all it is. Painted or unpainted aluminum. When I restored my 64, I painted both sides after sanding it down. It still looks new. Just did 4 loads in it this evening.

well tried the polish and wow its so much better, not as good as the factory but its right up there.. thanks for the info.. would be nice it she would sparkle like brads machine but still im real happy can t wait to play

It's never going to be "Factory"
That machine could be up to 64 years old! BUT! That Mother's Mag really does the trick doesn't it? You can really go through the rags getting all that top layer crud off. When you first apply it you'll feel a difference when you've really cleaned the gunk off. The rubbing gets easier. Feels somewhat smoother. Then I move on to the next section. Good old fashioned elbow grease. Shines like a, well, I don't know what. Something really shiny!
