Well guys...I found my very own Aussie FRIGIDAIRE!!!!

Well..here we are everybody! I found my very own Frigidaire Automatic washer in working order through an advertisement i had placed, which I will add to my collection for the planned convention in 2008. The machine is obviously a base version which was termed "Master" here in Oz. It was built on the 18/12/1970 according to the back sticker. Before anybody asks...Yes...i plan to put it through a cycle and record it....possibly tommorrow 30th April our time. I will keep you informed.

For you Frigidaire experts, you can tell me if its a "Rollermatic", "Pulsamatic" or "Multimatic" when you see the pic of the inner workings.

Hey Leon, Wow, cool machine you found there. This is really deceiving because it has the deep action agitator but with the pulsa-matic tranny. Plus the fact that it was built in 1970 you would think it would have the rollermatic transmission. Very interesting and fantastic find there.

WOW! Go Leon!

That is the model we had when I was a kid. The exact same light brown controls, the "4-petal flowers" in silver across the middle. Ours was the Deluxe, which got a panel of buttons for temperature settings. 5 buttons, labelled with both fabrics and hot/warm/cold wash and rinse.

That machine is in amazing conditon for its age - 25 years ago ours was already clapped out, and all the brown paint had peeled off the control panel.

I think all GM Frigidaire washers sold here were Pulsamatics - the Custom-Deluxes might have been Multimatic as they were labelled Rapidry, but I am pretty sure Rollermatics were never sold here. I think this machine would have been one of the very last Aussie Frigidaires.

Its like a parallel universe Frigidaire - like ours yet very different.
It appears to me to be a one speed machine, so Leon how does the Jetcone move really really fast so you can hardly see it or does it move just fast so you can actually read the letters on the cap as its moving up and down?

If it moves lightning fast that is a pulsamatic tranny if it moves just fast and creates no standing waves on the top of the water then its a multimatic with a single speed motor.

Either way it is a unique combination for Frigidaire Holden!

I just had a closer look at the photo of the innards - it's a Multimatic, isn't it? It has two drive belts with a clutch of some sort between the two pulleys on the motor shaft. This brings back memories of Dad and I working on the machine. So now we know that Multis were sold here, and well after they were dropped in USA.

Leon, could you please add a photo of the motor's ID plate? I am very interested to see what brand of motor is fitted. Ours had constant trouble for years with getting out of balance, as if it got up to spin speed too fast when the bowl was still too full of water. It was a serious pain. My old round body Frigidaire gets up to spin speed much slower, and empties the water out more progressively, without losing its balance. I have wondered if the later Aussie machines had a different motor fitted, with a heavier start winding which accelerates too fast. Our machine had several major services over the years, always from the main Frigidaire specialist in Melbourne, but always had the same trouble and a neighbour with a similar machine had it too.

I will get a pic and the details of the motor tomorrow....and Yes...it does have 2 belts, so i assume a Multimatic? I will probably understand more once i put it through a cycle.

Pretty kool-----a Multimatic with a Deep-Action pulsator. Now which type Multimatic was it----i.e. what was the spin speed?
Gansky/Robert----any ideas?

Operation of the timer is reversed----push to stop/pull to start. (Instructions on the lid).

WOW that is SO VERY COOL! Congratulations Leon.

From your pictures it appears to be a Mutlimatic with the 330 pulses per min for wash and the 710rpm spin! Very nice find.

By the way, the way I know it is a Multimatic is the fact that it has two belts, Pulsamatic washers have only one belt.

Congratulations, that is a very nice looking machine for it's age. Now why did Frigidaire participate in the Australian market and not in the Dutch? ;-)
