We're Having A Heat Wave, A Tropical Heat Wave!

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I've tolerated the shit weather and nearly failed to survive the lack of sun all winter and spring, I'm ready for our first string of 90s! (Which actually started Friday). If I hear someone start complaining about it being too hot blah blah blah I'll proverbially slice their heart out and feed it to a pack of wolves.

It's been humid and in the mid-90's here for the past few days. Severe thunderstorms predicted for this afternoon and tonight. Played two outdoor gigs yesterday and then had to mow the lawn (about 50 minutes) last night because of the storms predicted for today. It was brutal.

Much cooler than normal here

In Louisiana, it is much cooler and a bit less humid than usual. Not complaining at all! Just returned from a visit to the town where Steel Magnolias was filmed and went on a horse drawn tour of the historical district. Had a great guide that had a fun/satirical spin on most everything. Ate one of their famous meat pies too this time! It was a nice get away for a couple of days.

Allen...oh how I hear ya! Praying & lighting candles in church doesn't do a bit of good. The only way you really know it's hot here is when they close the airport because the runways are like the inside of a piece of candy...soft and gooey

It was quite hot and even here today!

It was above 90° with strong winds this afternoon, dropped back to 88° now. I have an air conditioner running to keep the temp at around 70° downstairs with the help of my Hunter tripod fan to move the air around and two air conditioners in bedrooms upstairs keeping the temp at 68°.

Hans, I completely agree. I like Winter. The Summers here are oppressive. I like Winter clothing, the fire in the fireplace. I do like a beach but only when oiled up and walking it.....not in dress clothes. To have to work in dress clothing in the Summer here is miserable. I lived in Miami years ago and while the Winter was very mild I was miserable there. Also lived in Chicago and the joke was "this southern boy will not last a Winter here"....man I loved it. Absolutely loved the entire 18 months there....Give me cold!

It was just beautiful here in NJ today. Although a bit warm, in the low 90's, humidity was very low and there was a lovely breeze. Every window was open in the house and after all the rain we've had for weeks and weeks, it was a pleasant change. My 2 Dominion box fans from 1963 are buzzing away in the windows and it feels great. I washed windows today and put in the A/C in the bedroom so I think that will be running for tonight, not supposed to get below 80. In any case, I love summer so all is good.

Hey GusHerb...lol, absolutely. I love Chicago. It really was the joke when I lived there, that I (the southern boy) would not last one Winter in the windy city. I loved it. I really did. I never had to shovel snow, so I would imagine that would not be a fun thing to do....but man I loved the distinct change of season. Here we go from Fall to Summer......every once in a while there is a cold snap, but it is short lived and I miss it when it is over.

Okay, how will we work this? lol

It's supposed to be in the high 80's to 90 here all week, we've already had the a/c's running for 3 or 4 days straight. Yesterday morning I went to work and it was already 75 by 8:30 am and when I got off at 3 it was 90 according to my car. Then a hot ride home because the air conditioner couldn't catch up (over a 25 minute drive). First time I've really noticed my car's a/c system to be wimpy (I drive a hybrid so the air conditioner isn't driven by the engine, usually works really well). No work today so staying inside and working on a few projects most of the day, I do have to go get gas and at some point am planning on washing mine and my girlfriend's cars. I don't deal with heat (especially humidity) well, so what's not bad to some might keep me inside. Several years ago now, the first "hot" day, I discovered that my car's a/c had lost it's coolant over the winter and no longer worked, I had driven to work (15 minutes or so) and told my manager I needed to go back home because I felt sick from the heat. He said I looked sick and to go home and cool off. My ideal temperature is about 75 with low humidity and a slight breeze.

As if the temp isn't bad enough

We also have to have 40 to 50 MPH winds driving the 92 degree temperatures. It's like being in a convection oven. Your garden and lawn dry out instantly almost, and you can't give them a good water because the wind carries the water away.

The wind has been so brutal this weekend, it laid my sunflowers down. my tomatoes are holding on because there are cages around them. The Green peppers were laid over, I am hoping that staking them up will save them.

And to think Dorothy actually wanted to get back to this place.

90+ again today. I don't do heat well either, particularly with the slightest humidity, and begin sweating like a pig anything over 75. My dad never sweat no matter how hot it got outside and neither does my partner. He doesn't like the a/c on in the house, too bad for him, and never uses it in his car, just drives around with the windows and sunroof open.. Not me I've got the thing going full blast in my car. You can always add clothes if you're feeling the chill with the ac but there's only so much you can remove to stay cool in polite company..
