This morning I went to an estate sale. It was a mid century modern house that the lady had lived there for over 50 years. I picked up a Magnavox TV(Will post about in another thread tomorrow). Anyways in the kitchen was this Westinghouse Dishwasher. I asked one of the ladys that was doing the sale if it was for sale. She said that no it was not, and that the house was already sold. Upon hearing of someone else here doing it, I wrote my name and number on a card and taped it to the inside of the dishwasher and saying I was intrested in purchasing it. I hope the new owner will find the note, before the machine gets destroyed. The racks are missing and not sure of the working condition.

That's the exact dishwasher that was in the house across the street from us. they were neighbors behind us at our old house and because of them we bought the house across the street from them. The little red switch turns on the heater booster for the wash and final rinse. The little light glows when the timer is being delayed for the heating. The house across the street had seafoam green appliances. Gansky found the non-heater version of this dishwasher a few years ago.

WOW! The dishwasher is identical to the daily driver we had when I was growing up. For an impeller dishwasher, it performed very well. Excellent at not etching glassware with our soft water.

That is a pretty dishwasher - and oven!   As Bob mentioned, I had this (non-heater) dishwasher a number of years ago.  It was turquoise and came out of a friend's house when they bought a new Whirlpool.  It was in the house when they bought it 20 years ago and used it once.  She said it leaked so they never turned it on again.  I gave it to another member in California who installed it in his kitchen.  Never turned it on myself, the impeller-bug didn't get me.  It wasn't until a couple of years later I had a WH top-load dishwasher to play with that I discovered how powerful that impeller washing was.   I hope you hear from the new owners, unless it's Nate and David that bought the house, you know it's coming out!

Very Nice

I have always loved the impeller dishwashers. Pull out even better, Bowtie impeller is my favorite. This is a very cool looking dishwasher. I wonder if the racks from a GE Mobile Maid bakalite impeller dishwasher will fit ? Hope this dishwasher is saved. Is the impeller the same shape as in my GE ? Good luck and please keep us posted. Michael

Birch cabinets?

I have attached a picture of my cabinets. Mine are birch and I love them! I believe (and I could be wrong) that the cabinets pictured above with the Westinghouse appliances are "blond" cabinets which were popular during that time period.

Todd!

OMG I love those cabinets. My parent's house had those exact same ones. The counter, however was "atomic" with the stainless edges. I love that color. Tres fabu.

Thank you!!!

Yes, I love these cabinets! The house that I live in used to belong to my Aunt. I inherited the house from her. When I first moved in, a realtor came over to give me a "fair market" value of the house and he said, "If you ever sell this house, be sure to paint the cabinets white and replace the handles to modernize the kitchen. I about fainted!! I would NEVER paint this cabinets...GASP!

From what I was told, these cabinets were made by the Brammer Mfg Company which was right here in Davenport, Iowa....so westingman123....the cabinets that your parents had may have been manufactured right here in my town!

Thanks for the compliments!

I do think the estate sale cabinets have a form of blonde finish.  They remind me of wood finishes in a few of the 50's classrooms I spent time in over the years.

I imagine a Westy Spacemate similar to Kevin's in the nearby laundry area, if this house didn't have the laundry outside like many do in Arizona.
