Real Westinghouse disposer

This is probably toward the end of Westinghouse disposers certainly pre-75.

These were sort of average disposers not as good as many other higher end ones.

Note that the mounting pieces that are included with this are for a ISE disposer, it will not work to install this unit.

Weren't Westinghouse disposers sourced from Anaheim fairly early on?

Too bad the Westinghouse-branded sink flange is missing...   And this seems overpriced.  A fellow collector here found me a 1958 GE Disposall, new in the box, at a Restore a while back - for $50!

Westinghouse disposer....

Late fifties to early sixties at oldest.

By the latter sixties they had been cheapeded considerably, as the Westinghouse Appliance Co. was becoming less profitable. My family had a 1967 Westinghouse disposer. By this time the hopper had been reduced in size, the exterior had a totally hard plastic shell and very minimal sound insulation. The turntable and impellers both redesigned from what you see in the picture.

The 1967 Westinghouse, along with the Whirlpool "Bone Specialist" disposals were rated at the very bottom of the Consumer Report ratings.

The only thing below the Westinghouse was the Tappan, rated "unacceptable," due to it's totally clogging on Consumer Reports' corn husk grinding test.

I suspect this unit would be a very decent machine. I would certainly purchase it if the mounting collar/flange were available.

Looks to be newer

I checked my literature, and model JC200M should be from 1971, with the "M" signifying the model year. Also, I think the mounting bracket and sink flange are original too, as they look like what's shown in the lit. The ISE wrench threw me at first and I think some parts (screws, clamp ring) are missing.

new design

Thanks, Steve. That is a totally redesigned init. I wonder if Westinghouse contracted someone to build it for them. Either that, or after the poor reviews on Consumer Reports they opted to rebuild from the ground up.

Last of the Westinghouse disposers

We saw a lot of these in this area where the houses came with all Westinghouse appliances, they weren’t real good disposers they were all pop metal like many disposers in this time. Didn’t last a real long time.

I’m quite sure from looking at the design that Westinghouse continue to build them till about the time they sold to white industries.

This disposer does have the wrong mounting flange it says ISE. on it the other pieces are also from an ISE disposer

mount

Hope no one buys this expecting to mount it with an ISE flange.

I recently found a Kitchen-Aid disposal, with the stationary impellers and the "Wham Jam" feature. It is new in the box. It does not indicate "Hobart" anywhere on the unit nor the box. I suspect it was made directly after Whirlpool purchased Kitchen-Aid, but before they sold the disposal design to Viking.

Will post some pictures in the next few days.
