Does anyone have a clue what brand of side by side refrigerator this might be? Or is this logo even real?

This was snapped from an episode of Bewitched, season 7, after the kitchen set had to be rebuilt because of a fire. Even though GM was still supplying Chevy cars for the show, Samantha's all-Frigidaire kitchen didn't return. Obviously the name was taped over or otherwise obscured, but that crest logo is pretty evident (for the quality of the source material).

Thoughts anyone?

Gibson looks like a winner...

Thanks, Firedome! I think Gibson looks like it may be the answer. Not a lot of images on the web for Gibsons of the late 60's/early 70's (and I'm not even going to ask why Google gives me Fender guitars when I search for "Gibson refrigerator"). But some of these 50's adverts show a crest that looks like the right shape.

Thank you again for helping save my sanity (such as it is)!

Here's the best shot I could find. It's from an eBay auction. Just offhand I'm not convinced it's the same crest. If they went to the trouble of hiding the product name, the crest might also be from another source (unrelated to appliances) and used to cover the real one.

Also Fender bought Gibson (the guitar company) many years ago. [this post was last edited: 8/29/2014-12:20]

Thanks, JeffG

I did not know that about the guitar makers--my musical instrument is the iPod. :)

From what I can tell (and it's a tiny bit clearer to see when looking at the TV in person than on this photo) it looks like the outline of the crest is essentially the same, but the inner details look a lot more simplified. It wouldn't surprise me if the logo had been modernized a bit by 1969/1970. (And it looks like it went away altogether by the time WCI got their grubby hands on Gibson.) For some reason, Bewitched didn't do much obscuring of labels--in this case it was probably just because it was a close-up shot. I guess the video quality back in the day was such that unless something was meant to be displayed (like a sponsor's product), it was assumed that no one would be able to see it clearly anyway. With the DVD's, though, you can get a good view of some cool old packaging in a few scenes.

And while we are talking about Bewitched--am I the only person who noticed that Samantha's Sunbeam Mixmaster always (except for ONE episode) sat on the counter with the handle at the side instead of upright? Really riled up my OCD tendencies!

Two possibilities

It could be that since the refrigerator was no longer a Frigidaire product, they didn't want to advertise the fact; in which case it could be anyone's refrigerator (first name that popped into my head was 'Bradford', based on the logo).

Second possibility could be that the manufacturer of the refrigerator had ties to another automobile manufacturer - like Philco (Ford) or whoever AMC was tied to - in which case there could have been an even greater desire to hide the brand, since Chevrolet was still the official sponsor of the show.

Thanks, Lawrence

American Motors owned Kelvinator (which had been part of Nash, one of the car companies that AMC traced its roots to). I'm completely unfamiliar with Bradford....

I was in your neck of the woods last weekend, by the way. Thought I would die from the heat! Finally got nice the day we left--never fails.
