Vel dishwashing liquid

Yep. The pink, vintage, rose smelling scent our grandmother's used is still available in Florida. Works just as good as many premium brands and smells great!

Dawn

Have been using institutional Dawn now for several years. Have the original blue now, but have used the yellow (lemon) also. Buy it by the gallon at GFS; more economical than buying the smaller bottles at the grocery store.

Vel - really?? Are you sure it isn't "Vel Rosita" for woolens? I am surprised that Vel dishwashing liquid is still available at all - thought it went away years ago. As I recall during the early 80's Consumer Reports rated it fairly well along with the other Colgate dishwashing liquids - Palmolive, Ajax and Dermassage.

I loved the color and the scent. If that is the real thing, would love to get my hands on some of it.

Currently using the now discontinued Palmolive for sensitive skin - mostly because the scent is quite mild. Stocked up at my local Family Dollar store. Like with today's laundry detergents, so many of the liquids are so overpoweringly perfumed, I can't use them. I do love the way Dawn works, but I never liked the original scent and the green one (can't remember the name of the scent) from back when there were only two scents has been unavailable for years. I also liked Ajax liquid, but the original lemon formula no longer smells the same and I am not fond of their others - lime, pink grapefruit. orange and the short lived lavender version. There was an Ajax formula with baking soda that smelled OK (blue liquid) but again that wasn't around long.
In a pinch I will use Ivory liquid - but the truth is I am not looking for aromatherapy when I am using dishwashing liquid.

I would prefer some Rose Lotion Vel, New Peach Thrill, Gentle Fels or Lux liquid- sigh...

I honestly and truly wish the ORIGINAL Ivory Liquid would come back on the market. I used it religiously and it did a wonderful job on greasy items, as well as regular every day dishwashing.

For now, I'm using mostly Palmolive or Ajax products (I've found it at Dollar Tree, but has anyone tried the Ajax Lime with Bleach Alternative?).

I also have a half bottle of Dawn Direct Foam that someone gave me over 2 years ago.

I'll probably buy a bottle of non-ultra Dawn when my supply of the other stuff starts to dwindle.

For a bit of nostalgia, here's an old Ivory Liquid commercial with the benefits of buying it over a bargain brand (but again, let's not forget that the suds mean nothing as far as doing the actual cleaning).

Joy!

There are some ads for it on ebay and a commercial on You Tube (link is below), but Joy was the FIRST liquid dish washing detergent. I think it made it's debut in either '52 or '53.

It's another one I use on occasion.
