what do you guys think of this combo unit?

Hi everyone. I've had my Edgestar combo unit for a couple years, but it's starting to go. The pump makes a bad noise, and now the dryer timer doesn't stop so the dryer will go for hours unless I manually stop it. I think the LG units look good and seem to be nice... I think I will like the larger size as well.

I've never seen a combo unit with the controls on the top before. I kind of like it! I'm not about to spend 900 dollars for the one in this CL add, but what do you guys think of this model and the LG combos in general? I think 5 or 6 hundred for a used one is the MOST I should consider spending. Most of the combo units from LG get pretty good reviews!

--here in U.S.A.,run on 110 volts and as the smaller 24 inch units may save space,when used correctly by removing half the load once the final spin has ended,drying it after the first half load has finished,they are not as convenient as they may seam.Those who are that limited on floor space may find them usefull but wind up not getting all of the practicle use of them as those who have the full size units.I sold at least 50 of the full size 27" L.G.models like the one shown on CL and only had one dissatisfied customer who assumed the door was reverseable.There were many questions asked and the most comon was "how much does it hold?" If you weigh clothes on a scale,you can wash a full 20 pounds of laundry in them BUT,unless you are hanging your wash out,you will get excelent results (2.5 minute cycle) when you wash a ten pound load without removal of any wash.Those who followed that rule,love them and sell their friends/family on them.

The only negative issues are that the door must be left open because the steam that remains after these ventless models are finished drying must escape.those who did not follow through on that got rust marks developing around the door frame.The "button catcher" MUST be cleaned on a weekly basis.Lint that acumulates in it can cause pump failier and not allow the remaining water to drain.

I never owned one of the full size 27 inch models but the 24 inch models I had two of were great and I had one on the pool deck and one in the 2nd floor bathroom closet.The one on the pool deck was completely useful and did all the towels and bathing suites in abot 110 minutes.We usualy ran three towels and five pieces of bathing suites.Both units were free from a local used appliance store that hated front loaders.Our friends freaked out seeing it next to the gas grill,but there was a hookup right there and it was extreamly convenient.Both worked fine but one had to be repaired after three washes and the part took 7 months to get.LG claimed the company that made the part had been on strike.So,they extended the waranty another year!I sold them before my exodous from the mainland and got $450 each for them. One was white and the other was Titanium.Go for it!

Depends on how much you wash? Stacking F/L machines would be faster. Actually a lot faster that unit can wash 22lbs and dry 11, It might be perfect for your needs, I would be very dissatisfied. alr2903

An 11lb...

....wash load is about 10 cotton single bed sheets....

Which is also the capacity of most European machines of 20-25yrs ago. Unless you're washing for more than 4 people, that should be plenty big enough to use on 1/2 load to enable the machine to go direct from wash to dry...

Funnily enough, at our Christmas party last night one couple who lives in a loft was praising their LG washer/dryer to the heavens...they said they do a load Monday-Wednesday and Saturday and set the delay to start 3 hours before they come home from work so the clothes are just finishing tumbling.

I already have a smaller Edgestar unit, so I'm quite familiar with the way these work. Very true about removing half the load for good drying results. Since I live in an apartment w/o hook ups, a traditional set is impossible for me to have. The LG is much bigger than my current Edgestar, but I just wondered if they were reliable. I'm not going to spend 900 for a used one though!

that model was made

over 5 years ago, check the age , that is a lot for a 5 year old machine. But I just saw this week a backsplash model at Lowe's again so maybe they are back in production.

This machine is an almost exact duplicate of the 1953 Bendix Combo as far as the method and internal layout.

Yes, they still make a backsplash model. They also have one under the kenmore name too.
