Hey guys.... I don't know if this has ever been discussed here before or not, but just wondering what you all shave with. I assume at least some of you like to shave the old fashioned way since you are into vintage stuff
) I haven't had to buy razor blades for two years because a friend who worked at a hotel got a lot of samples of multi blade shick razors.... He gave me two grocery bags worth and I've been using them and then throwing them away. Well, I'm almost out of them, so I decided to look for alternatives to the Mach 3 that I had previously used (never tried a Fusion).... the cartridges were more expensive than I wanted to pay. I ended up getting a Merkur long handle classic double edge safety razor. I like that it's all metal and that blades are SO cheap for it. I also have a straight razor that I tried just once.... but after I almost bled to death, I put that sucker back in the cabinet. I got a mug, brush, and shaving soap too. I also got a sample pack of 60 different blades from 10 manufactures so I can see which one I like best. I expect it will take me long time to go through them all, especially since each blade has two sides. I have had it for about a week, and though I've cut myself a few times and haven't quite mastered the technique, it has made the whole experience more fun and rewarding. I used to shave in the shower without even looking in a mirror... did my whole face in 30 seconds. Now, it takes several minutes in front of the sink/mirror and I prepare properly (hot face first, lots of hot water)...
So, do any of you use an older method to shave with, or do you just use the electric razors or 50 bladed cartridges that cost 30 dollars for a box of refills? I think there is just something about doing it the old fashioned way... can't put my finger on it.... I also like to write with fountain pens
