Plastic Slipcovers... the transparent evil.
We had a set of those heavy, inflexible slipcovers in our living room in the late 60s. I suppose it was to keep the sofa and chairs looking fresh, but it did so by making sure NOBODY sat in them.
In fact the only time I remember sitting on the sofa was the days we were going to Disneyland. We'd get dressed up in our suites (60's ... remember?) and then have to sit still on the sofa so we didn't get mussed up as we waited for our parents to come down.
It seemed like an eternity.
