Yes, I saw "frigidaire" and saw the tall control panels and nearly dispensed my fabric softener prematurely! The seller didn't have any other pics of the inside of the washer. It would have answered the mystery. Thanks appnut!
Those were actually pretty durable machines. There is a condo we always stay at in Branson, MO. It is strictly a rental condo for tourists and there is a set of these that have been there since the condo's were built in 1993. Most of the condo's in the complex still have these. They are noisy but do a good job. Deep indexing tub, lid locks during spin. The dryer I could care less for, it is slower than a WP made dryer, kind of reminds me of a GE in how it dries. Considering they may be on to 20 years old thats not too bad.
Not a bad machine, not the most durable, but not the worst one out there.

BTW, some of you guys say this set is junk and others say its not so bad, to the ones that say its not so bad, what other brand or model do you find to be worse?

I was just saying.....
Most junk does not last 20 years. The machines like them we used at the condo's cleaned well and performed good aside from the noise of the washer (it was loud, mainly on spin). Being in a tourist only condo complex I would imagine they had seen a lot of use. All mechanicals at some point are going to fail and need a repair. Granted they may not be the same quality as when GM owned Frigidaire but these particular models seemed pretty durable. Self cleaning lint filter is located under the agitator kind of like the later maytag dependable cares.

My MIL has the Kenmore version of a stacked pair....can't mistake its a Fridg-more inside.....we got it for her in 2001.....and still no issues.....not even a belt....
treated right and with care....and most will last quite a while....

At the risk of being outcast on AW.org, I don't care for the 1-18 GM Frigidaires. Having repaired several hundred during their heyday, I don't like much about them.

I have lived with 2 Frigidaires like that one. #1 looked exactly like that. #2 was similar, but had more features. It's hard for me judge durability, since I don't know the full history of either machine. Even the worst washer could possibly last forever if only used once a year....
My big complaint was the performance as a washer. Clothes did not seem to get as clean as they do in other machines. And I don't run torture loads. Most of what I need is "freshening" not aggressive cleaning. I shudder to think of what it would be like for someone who routinely has truly filthy laundry to deal with. Although, on the other hand, the Frigidaire was, as far as I could tell, more gentle than a "Shredmore."
The one thing I did like about the Frigidaire was the capacity of the tub. I don't need this capacity day to day--a standard belt drive Kenmore tub is big enough for 99% of my needs. But large capacity can be handy. I wouldn't want a Frigidaire as my "forever" washer. But I wouldn't mind having one in the corner of the laundry room for handling occasional big loads.

I've heard they were pretty pitiful machines for what concerns durability, materials and washing, so poor washing performances also, it was due to the indexing tub which is a total idiocy.

Not the best.
Machine out there. The capacity was good but washing suffered due to tub indexing. It seems to me that this series was fairly solid in build but not of good design. I have heard of these lasting a long time with proper care. However they cannot take heavy usage or very dirty loads like a Whirlpool/Kenmore or Maytag.

The brand "Frigidaire" has been run into the ground. What's next, Whirlpool buying up Maytag? The Mayan's were on to something!

Frigidaire's reputation started to shrunk many time ago...... Just think Horizons 2000 were actually early 90s models....
We have just to be greatful that is Whirlpool buying others brands and not some asiatic company, we have to be grateful that Whirlpool is still an american corp. not a chinese one since the times are what they're......

That is not humanly possible, I don't think.
Before I wised up and went to vintage 'Tags, I had a Design 2000 Whirly pair.
Clothes would have dried faster at the bottom of a lake.

I have a friend that has a set of these. Other than one belt change, they have NEVER had any problem with them. And considering they bought them on the cheap, money well spent in my book.
Would I have a set? Not for very long, for sure...

Is it a large commercial drying tumbler?
A Top lint screen WP/KM dryer is one of the best and the most produced residential dryer EVER. If the screen is kept clean and proper duct maintenance is done one of these should dry in 50 min or less for 20+ years.
With the exception of a true Maytag dryer or a commercial machine I don't know what would dry faster.

The two Maytag dryers I've owned - an DE606 and an DE806. While I don't own the 606 any more, it and the 806 dried much, much faster than the WP, which was properly maintained, with lint screen cleaned religiously after every load, inside of dryer cleaned regularly and ductwork cleaned as well.
My 'Tags also outcleaned the WP washer. My first 'Tag washer was an A108, a one-speed Fabric-Matic. The very first load run in it showed an amazing difference from the WP DD Design 2000 washer I'd replaced with the 'Tag. My current 'Tag washer is an 806, and it's a great cleaner, too.

I know some MT dryers are fast but I would not have thought the difference one way or the other to be that great.
I will say though my current MT dryer dries way faster than that GOD AWFUL 27" Kenmore with the screen in the front I used to have. Was this the Type your WP was?
I do agree the Old Maytags could do a very good job when used correctly and you obviously do.
