No such luck!
Oh! If only you could fit the 15 racks in the 14 tank!
Not by any stretch of the imagination would it work. The tanks are not the same width or depth not to mention the height as well.
As most of you already know, the UM commercial Hobart undercounter and KD10-14 series machines shared most of the same dimensions and mechanical items. The 14 had a higher tank to accomodate the top rack but the racks were smaller than the more modern sized commercial standard of approx. 20"x20".
Demand grew from the consumers for more capacity in both domestic and commercial lines so that when they designed the 15 series, it took the racks you see in the 17 as well as a 20x20 rack on a special carrier for the commercial models. That enabled a commercial establishment to use the same racks in their undercounter machines as they could use in thier conveyor machines. The 15 series laid the foundation for the first WM series that Hobart built. After that, they used the 16/tank bottom and sides with the 15 top and then went to the 18 series style tank and pump but the tanks came over here from Europe but both used the American pump systems.
The other major reason for discontinuing the UM series was that by the time they made that decision which was 1979, the dies they were using had all but worn out and it did not seem appropriate to spend the money to retool up to continue producing the UM series. It would have been another story if they were still making the 14 series but that was long since over with. By '79, the 14 series was basically obsolete from the standpoint of providing replacement parts. Hobart was one of the few companies at the time who still made parts for 15 years after production ended.
Good wish, Jon, but you might need more than a fairy godmother to make it work!
