Although I don't remember the specific details, this is the combo I believe found on the west coast--washington state. I can't remember if it was flea bay or not. This one was found about the same time as a coppertone one I think. I think it as about last February.
Jon, Beautiful machine. It was worth the wait so you're off the hook.
I dunno Nelson, the angst and anguish we went thru ... I'm lining up to give Jon one of those many slaps!! I'll bring my leather too.

DANG that is one nice machine. These combinations fascinate me.
There is a sad commentary with that picture. While I do not mean Jet ANY OFFENSE, and I am sure the modern machine next to it is nice, just look at the style that was in our appliances at one point. Why did this go away? One could say price, but I think consumers just don't value style anymore. People who do make/come to sites like this. We must be a tiny minority. This is true with cars too. I love to hear people tell me how "hot" their "tuner" Honda is. The reality is that most of our appliances, (and "tuner" Hondas) we buy now will end up in a landfill (dare I say that...I mean recycled) and Jet's vintage machine will continue to be collected and valued.
On a personal note, next month we get our new Neptune. I should be excited, but when we looked at it I found it about as exciting as looking at wood for the fence. That should not be how you feel when picking out major appliances.
Here's to style and saving the good stuff! Great job.

In looking at the pic of the combo in its original home, it looks like it's next to a rare "tabletop" style electric water heater. My maternal Grandmother favored that type, and we had two in her lifetime. Her second one lasted from 1964 to 1995.

This machine is a 1963 and was installed in a group of Condos built, I am told, near and in celebration of the Seattle Worlds Fair. A young couple had just bought the Condo back in Feb and were told the machine was broken BUT they didn't want to see it go the Krusher! What forsight! So I had it shipped out to Boston.
When I opened it up I couldn't believe my eyes! It looked like it had only been used twice! There were places there should have been corrosion and there was none.
After running it I found the "problem" was a gunked up Water valve! All the needle springs were clogged with copper rust. A good cleaning and off she went working beautifully. What was real kewel was that it runs so quietly! Not like my other high use GE COmbos! Its like a GE dryer.
Yes Louis this machine is about 6 years older than my Avocado 1969 machine and 1968 Kitchen machine!
I guess I have become a Combo maniac!

That machine looks like new!! I noticed there are more screws to attach the cord to then there are wires. What's that about?

Man I'd love to take an entire video of the BACK of the machine with all those pulleys and belts.
Wonderful find! Now as soon as I get a place to live here in MA, of course, I need to find me some vintage washers to play with.

I can't get over how wonderful you new GE combo looks! Even the belts look new!
It really looks like these machines were built very well.
One question. Is there a cover the protects the power cord connection from touching the back of the cabinet? I was wondering if you just had it off to change the cord or something.

1) Hot/live in
2) Screw to mount terminal block to machine
3) Neutral in
4) Screw to mount terminal block to machine
5) Hot/live in
Now pardon me if you know this already.
1 + 3 = 110/120 volts
5 + 3 = 110/120 volts
1 + 5 = 220/240 volts (or 208 if a 4wire 3-phase system)
Neutral is White
Hot/live is black & red
Here we also see the neutral used to ground the machine (#3 above) by way of a copper grounding terminal connected to the line (power)cord in. This is allowed in some locations and was pretty common. Now, a four wire cord ("flex" => UK) is preferred. The fourth ground (earth) wire is green here, yellow across the pond, would then be connected to the copper jumper and the jumper would not be connected to the center post (neutral)

What a great machine and so glad that you got to save it! Seems like lately people are more aware of the "oldies but goodies" and aren't throwing them away but finding someone that wants them. Hopefully this will be a trend that continues! Congratulations again! Mark

Steve, thanks for the explanation. I assume that means this machine can run on both on 110V and 220V? A pity that they don't do that with modern combo's!
