Defrosting
Is a small price to pay for much better food keeping results,especially vegetables and fruits and frozen foods, my experience with frost free.."Especially that contraption in my kitchen" has been very poor frozen food keeping ability, I got rid of my upright frost free freezer for the very same reason, give me a good old manual defrost chest freezer anyday, it runs about half as much and my ice cream isn't covered with ice crystals....As for a new compressor...That's the main reason I want vintage..they are MUCH quieter and run half as much...Good example, Our neighbor on the street where I grew up bought a Frigidaire in 1939 when the REA put in the electrical lines. its still running in her great nieces basement with out ever having so much as one service call....Find me ANYTHING made today that will be running in 78 years and I will buy it!!!
