When you put cinnamon in the coffee maker, tilt the filter so the cinnamon stays to one side; then put the coffee in. Solves the clog problem, AND comes out tasty =)

Plaid, my favorite color!

Does anyone remember Stewarts, sold in the Chicago area in a red plaid can? I drank it when I moved to the midewest and learned MJB was not available.

Jason,

My understanding is that Columbian coffee can be either Arabica or Robusta beans... it just depends on the grade.

The brand I buy, San Francisco Bay Columbian Supremo, is 100% prime arabica beans. Each package is vacuum packed in a thick "aroma lock seal" bag.

Columbian coffee is said to have naturally lower caffeine levels than other varieties, without losing any flavor.

So, no, it doesn't smell at all like cigarettes. It smells like ... good coffee.

Love Millstone, Starbucks, and Seattle's Best. Lately I've been buying a whole bean coffee called Seattle Mountain Coffee. It is as smooth as a baby's bottom, and sells at Costco.

Chock full of nuts

I remember radio commercials for Chock Full of Nuts, sung by an elderly woman who evidently also had slightly loose dentures:

Chock full o'Nuts is that heavenly coffee,
heavenly coffee, heavenly coffee
Chock full o'Nuts is that heavenly coffee,
Better coffee a millionaire's money can't buy.

I don't know who the singer was, but I would guess that she's since passed on.

At our house it is either Chock Full O' Nuts, or Maxwell House Original. And also Maxwell House Hazelnut for my wife, and Cafe' Du Monde coffee and chicory blend for me.

Eight-O-Clock + Sunbeam Coffeemaster + TIP

Count me in for Eight-O-Clock red-bag and Sunbeam coffeemaster. Fantastic stuff.
However, I own both the old Kitchenaid Coffee grinder AND the new reproduction Kitchenaid coffee grinder. The Eight-O-Clock coffee is the only brand that doesn't gum up the repro Kitchenaid coffeegrinder. The original 1930's coffeegrinder still works and grinds anything (as it has for me for 10 years). I was given the repro as a gift and use it. Believe it or not, the glass vessel on the repro does fit the original grinder! Gotta give them credit for a good repro (even if it is made in China...)

I'm with you! Eigh O'clock coffe on my Sunbeam C50 Coffeemaster! Though I do enjoy the regular red bagged Eight O'clock coffee, my favorite is the Hazelnut with the French Vanilla a close second.

I use a vintage grinder that was produced in France. The brand name is Moulinex.

Ever since I discovered Eight O'clock coffee I haven't bought anything else.

Jack the Ass

Jason,

They fired the donkey!

The production staff complained bitterly about how hard he is to work with.

He was just an ass!

Juan Valdez was cool, but perhaps just a little misleading, as I understand the company that used that character was just another big agribusiness giant.

There's a movement amongst some coffee roasters in the USA only to buy coffee from plantations where the workers are treated right, given living wages, the environment is respected, etc. Having traveled in Central America and seen the grinding poverty and social stratification first hand, I think that's a good cause.
