Saw an ad for these, $40 obo...", after a few days I get a response, "I am out of town, be back next week." Needless to say I was excited.
Today I contacted again, here was the reply:
Hello,
Yes I'm back, but unfortunately and unbeknownst to me, my brother moved them out to the curb and a scraper picked them up, I'm so angry. Sorry.

Terribly frustrating.

About 12 years ago, I'm in Milwaukee for an Airliner show. I call the local Speed Queen parts house figuring they are close enough to SQ's home base to have some great old stuff. Got through to the owner. Explained to him about my restoration projects, old parts needs, etc.
He says " gee, I wish you had called a couple weeks ago. I had my people fill a dumpster with all those old solid-tub parts and got rid of them. Nobody ever called for them anymore!"

Ruined my whole trip.

I have that washer in coppertone and I love it.I got it I from RevvinKevin.At the time he also had that same set in avocado and he sold it to someone in the club I believe.That was 5 years ago at least so if you really wanted one of those you could inquire.That is how I have gotten alot of my collection,you ask hey you want to sell that?Worth a try.

I am just sorry they were crushed when I would have been happy to store them until another collector wanted them, or until I could make a home for them here.

It was so close, but entropy intervened decisively as is it's want.

Needless to say Craigslist can be full of flakes and idiots. If you really want something keep after them and get over there ASAP.

I recently missed a good deal on a Maytag washer. Asked the seller on a Wed when I could check it out, they said Saturday, okay I said. Contacted them that Sat to set up a time and they replied, Oh, sorry someone took it Friday!

Another guy wanted to barter for his washer/dryer set. Hello,, bartering sucks, thats why money was invented.

Money Talks

When you see an ad for something rare like this at a very low price you either need to be there with a truck and helpers to load immediately OR you need to offer a decent amount of money if you expect the seller to jump through hoops to meet your schedule and help with shipping, loading etc.

 

When you see something like this that you really want talk to the seller as soon as possible with a realistic reason why you want this W&D [ tell them you Mother had the exact same set and you have fond memories of it etc ] Do Not ask a millions questions about whether it works perfectly, doesn't leak etc.

 

Then offer a fair price, for this 1970 Kenmore pair I would have offered around $200.

 

No body likes a bargain more than I do and some of our best stuff we got for free or close to it, and I have also purchased very rare machines from all over the country without any problems with sellers, I have always found sellers to be helpful and cooperative when you make it a fair transaction where both parties are happy.

Yeah, that brother has total sh*t for brains.

Never occurs to him that a vintage avocado green matched set in nice condition may have some collector value and at the very least doesn't deserve to be dragged to curb like a bag of garbage.

I agree 100% with the guy saying CR LIST is full of scams and some jokers! posting pristine stuff and flaking out on the last minute or with a bogus story like my brother put them out to the curb and the trash man took them??give me a break , I feel your frustration I go through that too with seeing great things at a super low price feels like they do it purposely to get attention or something . I can be wrong but keep looking I'm sure you'll score again. peace

Good things happen

Last Wednesday which was also my birthday some one posted a 1 to 18 in San Bernardino for $150.

I'm in Rancho Mirage which is 60 miles away. I took it as a sign and called and the woman gave me her address.

I drove out that day and the neighborhood was quite scary but the woman was quite nice. He husband fixes refrigeration on the side and although the machine looked rough I took it and paid her cash plus more to deliver. She wrote me out a receipt called her husband and he said he could deliver the next day at noon.

He and his helper showed up at noon sharp unhooked my A806 Maytag and hooked up the Jetcone.

It worked great. I did several load with just cascade and vinegar. Lot's of calcium and finally ran clean. Seems some of the buildup got in the inlet valve but that is all clear now. It works great and I never thought I'd have a 1 to 18. He says a woman had moved out here and had it in storage for years because her house had a washer.

I really can't tell you what it is about having an opportunity to grab / save something and going to grab / save it, yet at the same time NOT having enough space for the new arrivals. It is truly a conundrum. Either that or I really need to tell the doctor to change my meds because...
