What washer to replace an ailing Whirlpool Cabrio?

Hello all,
The Cabrio which came with our house a few years ago is starting to fall apart (bad rust issues and intermittent electronics). It never washed very well, and it's time to replace before it has a fatal failure.

What's good these days in a new machine? Our needs are #1, high reliability and longevity, and #2, adequate capacity for a family of five. Not so big on fancy features or efficiency. For reference, our previous home had a Speed Queen SC27 industrial washer I put in the basement that we unfortunately couldn't take with us. Old Youtube video I made of that one is still out there somewhere. LOVED that monster, though it was hard on clothes. We prefer something slightly more domesticated this time.

#1 Speed Queen FF7 front loader for reliability/longevity. Just be aware there's no internal heater.

#2 LG4000 series with Turbowash.

#3 Speed Queen TC5003 top loader. You'll be chewing through a belt every 3-4 years on the TC5003 with a family of 5 though.

kenmore elite

I have the kenmore elite version of the lg. It does a great job cleaning and rinsing thanks to the turbowash which sears calls accelawash.

We use Samsung top load washer Model #WA50R5200AW

We’ve had it now for 2 1/2 years with no problems what so ever with a 5.0 cubic foot tub. It cleans very well. Just be sure to read the user manual for best results. We also have the matching dryer.

We had a Whirlpool top load with impeller bought in 2018 similar to model #WTW4950HW. It lasted exactly two years. The bearing seized up. The matching dryer died the following year.

LG makes good washers and dryers also!!!

Family of five

We are a family of five and I run a business out of the home. I do a load a day for business stuff and the rest is all family laundry. So far my 2 year old LG front loader is still going strong!
I have the 4370 which has turbo wash- it’s a must have in my household, we do 13-15 loads a week.

If my LG doesn’t last more than 7ish years. I would probably buy a speed queen FF7

It is helpful to know which brands and models people are having good luck with.

It's also a little disappointing to me when it's considered commendable for a machine to give just a few years of trouble free use.

But I guess it's all relative now. My Maytag Bravos lasted almost 8 months doing a couple loads a week, so I guess a machine lasting three or four times as long is doing good?

Anyway, I bought the Speed Queen TC5 with the full refund I received from Whirlpool and am very pleased with it. It is a very well constructed machine, especially compared to the Maytag, and washes well.

If the front load Speed Queen wasn't like $800 more, and I was sure it would fit in my utility room as well, I would have seriously considered it though I have an affinity for top loaders.

So it you're buying new either the SQ TC5 or FF7 is what I would recommend. If you thought your SC27 was hard on clothes you'd probably like the FF7.

I've also noticed the OP hasn't yet replied with any updates, I hope it works out for him.

I think it's clear from his post that he is focused on durability and longevity. Actually that's what he said. It comes above features and efficiency for him. I don't believe he is saying that he doesn't want efficiency, just that it's not highest on his list. I don't see that he has anything to answer for. Reliability and durability are also two of my highest qualities for any product I get.

If he gets a reliable product with longevity, he's doing more for the environment than than buying an HE machine that goes into a landfill, or even gets recycled, in a couple of years.

If you're only washing 3 or 4 loads a week, and you live where water actually falls out of the sky, longivity is more imporant that energy efficiency.

It's still very clear to me that the OP places reliability and longevity above features and efficiency, exactly as he stated.

there no right or wrong here this is my curent daily driver even do its not fancy it do the job in term of washing and rinsing even if its a top load its 100%
