Dream Dishwasher!

I know someone that had that TOL kenmore it was really a power house. I personally had a whirlpool power clean portable. It was model 8700. I wish I had that power clean to me it was the best dishwasher. They just don't make them like they used to. I am still happy :) with my Bosch 300 series.

This thread is perfectly timed...

As I literally just bought my dream dishwasher yesterday; the Hobart KitchenAid KDS-21. This is a very unique machine in that it was technically produced by two manufacturers, Hobart and Whirlpool. The Hobart built versions of this machine are fairly elusive, as they were made for a shorter window of time than the Whirlpool built 21 series machines. As I understand it, the Whirlpool built 21 series models were the exact same design as the Hobart units, but had some minor differences, such as different motor manufacturers (I believe Whirlpool used Emerson motors, while Hobart made their own) and slightly different labeling on the control panel (such as the addition of the ‘whisper quiet’ moniker and the change from ‘light wash’ to ‘light/china’ on the whirlpool units). They also differ in the orientation of their detergent dispensers. On the Hobart machines, the two doors face downward. On the whirlpool models, they face upwards. I’ve read that this change was made to reduce the risk of a fire by eliminating the risk of water getting onto the door actuators in the event of the seal around the dispenser failing. Mine is a Hobart model, making it one of the very last residential dishwashers that they produced before the sale of KitchenAid to Whirlpool.

My two Holy Grails

An early WP-600 with the two pumps. I have a later one that I cherish but the cycle control is slightly broken because it skips from interval to the next interval without draining so at the end of the wash/rinse period the tank is almost 1/2 full with water.

A 1961or 1962 GE SU 70 with a dial instead of the WASH/PLATE WARM control buttons. This was the first dishwasher my family ever had/used and nobody appreciated it except me.

Facebook Finds

No sure if this was one of the Whirlys being discussed above, but I don’t see them too much on Marketplace so I figured I’d post it!

If I’d were to get myself a vintage dishwasher today, it would be a Horbet Built KitchenAid from the 1970’s or 1980’s or the Solid-State Sears Kenmore. Our family had the Sears Kenmore so described, and it was a great dishwasher.

It lasted 16 years.

My 1968 Whirlpool portable top-loader cleaned and dried every bit as well as my current Bosch 800. It was also very nice looking with its well-designed control panel.

I apoligize for quoting myself but if any aw members own the dishwasher in the pic i would love to see a video of this model going true a full cycle including the light change as the cycle advance

I guess the roto-rack Lady Kenmore that I made a small dresser/end table with only a top drawer which actually held the dishes...

Until I taped a cardboard door to the bottom to do the actual washing in but it didn't have racks inside it, mocked-up like...

Than maybe replace with the Sears Best electronic Kenmore in reply #16...

After which I'd probably have to jump on the band wagon to get the last Hobart-built Kitchen Aid, like everyone else did...

Definitely a 1980s Whirlpool Powerclean with the porcelain tub and the turquoise racks/upper wash arm.
