What you'll drag home - just for an agitator!

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Yes you must find it a good home. Someone here will surely fix it up. It is practically in mint shape, which like others have said makes me wonder where it was. Certainly not in a laundromat or it would be pretty beaten up I would imagine.

Yeah, another big vote to keep this rare gem. These are rarer than Frigidaire's, especially in such nice shape. Does anybody here even have one in their collection?!?!

Am I going to have to rebuild one of my 6 spare transmissions and send it back home to its original birth state, lol?

Bob said, She's got a warm rinse!!. Hum, that certainly is worth 5 points towards keeping it!

alr2903 - you know, I've walked into many Highlander Centers - just never thought to open the lid of any machine while visiting. Always assumed they were standard capacity. Now we all know better! :D

Robert - great story, I'm glad you had a trip down memory lane earlier today. Interesting to think that the actions we all make can have amazing affects on others. Glad I didn't leave this one behind.

Jon - it may be a bug but sadly I'm not infected with the rare Gyromatic or Pulsamatics hives! Maytag-disease is a simple and common infection for those in the midwest, easily cleared up with some benadryl.

John - great info, had no idea that the Big Load dryers were first tested in the commercial line starting in 1973. While I have no room it certainly was a clean looking dryer....

Nate - LOL, I love the idea of a coin-op range. It would break the bank to do a turkey for Thanksgiving.

Dan - I wouldn't say this is rarer than a GM coin-op, but they are harder to find in a somewhat decent condition. I think you might be correct - I haven't seen anyone bring home a coin-op Maytag. Maybe I'm just the first sucker? ;-)

I took some Line Away to the lid tonight and found the usual pristine porcelain finish on the underside of the lid. Made me wish that Maytag would have put lid instructions on all their machines. I love the feeling of running your fingers over the letters - too cool!

So, what happens when you try to remove a stuck 2 piece agitator with the factory Maytag agitator removal tool? THIS!!

(no agitators were harmed while taking this photo. It was already busted before I made it meet it's maker)

Thankfully the Agitamer fit perfectly under the black large cap agitator. It fought and fought all the way till the last little bit of agitator shaft was stuck - then POP!

There is no way I would have been able to get this out last night.

Pretty!

H A W T

Looks at home in the Super Tag!

I know we all love the turquoise Power Fins, but honestly I think this is a really stunning set-up. I think Maytag may have missed a nice marketing opportunity with this agitator.

The Maytags in my dorm at Cal Poly were very similar and avocado too, but only ran a basic cycle. This is a much nicer model.

I do like the black agitator with the white tub. You've got yourself a See's Candies edition now!

Where the Chrome Topped agis reserved for TOL machines only?

Hey Mike!

You're on the money with this one. I'm speaking towards the '06 machines here - so only the 806 and 906 received the stainless steel trimmed lint filter from 1966 through 1972/1973-ish. After that, all machines received the standard turquoise lint filter.

The black Power Fin matched with the turquoise lint filter was the standard affair for the 106/206 machines from 1966 on. To my knowledge there wasn't a black lint filter assembly made.

Hope this helps!

Ben

Ben is the coin op growing on you, or are you going to part out the old gal? I am still hoping you let her live on for a while. alr2903

The black power-fin looks kind of cool...I didn't know Maytag used extra large (deep tub) capacity washers in laundromats.

Hey swestoyz, I noticed your older style GE washer...is it an extra large tub...do you have any pics of your washer...if not, can you post some?
