What's a good oven light bulb ?

Hi all
I was wondering if anyone would have any thoughts on a good long lasting oven light bulb ? I've been buying GE and Phillips light bulbs for my frigidaire flair. I'd say... roughly .. every 3 months my ovens seem to need new bubs . I've check the wiring and the voltage. And every thing check ok on the oven light . Just seems to go through a lot of light bulbs in both the small and large oven. Do they just not make alliance bulbs like they use to ? It's been a mix of the 2 things. The bulb simply blows out or it becomes detached from the threads . I've never had this problem before owning my flair. I'm thinking maybe it's the layout of the oven and the light ? Figuring that the light is in the top of the oven right in the middle of the broiler element, the bulb is subjected to extreme heat when broiling. With that said .... my mother doesn't seem to have this issue with her flair. But then again the bulb in her flair probably hasn't been changed in close to 30 years .. lol maybe it was a better bulb ?

Are you using the correct type of bulb?

Our ovens in the UK use a pygmy type bulb, specifically made for use in ovens. Normal bulbs are not suitable.

Oven Bulbs For FD Flair Ovens

Those should be good bulbs, do your ovens still have the glass cover for the oven lights ?, if not the glue that holds the base on the glass bulb may fail.

I don't think the quality of light bulbs in general are that well anymore. I also have changed my oven bulb 3x in the last 5 years. My oven isn't vintage either.

I totally agree. My previous stove was a late 1980 early 90s white Westinghouse. I never changed the bulb once in 10 years of use. It's like that saying ...... they just don't make things like they use to..

I've had two appliance sized GE bulbs fail in a plain outdoor light fixture, each in a matter of months.

 

I blame the bulbs.  A "rough service" bulb would probably solve your problem, but I've never seen one in the smaller size required for most appliances.

This sounds odd, but I make it a habit to grab the appliance bulbs out of the older fridges and ovens that are headed for the scrapper...or are already at the scrapper waiting for processing. These tend to be older, higher quality, US built bulbs.

My parents have a 1985 Hotpoint self cleaning range and I'm not sure they have ever replaced the oven light bulb in 22 years, it may still have the original bulb from 1985!

I remember back in 2007, I took the light fixture on the side of the house down to repaint it while we were painting the house. I figured I might as well replace the bulb while I had it down, seeing as it had never been changed and could fail soon. Well, the new bulb went out shortly after I put it back up. Should have just left the old one in place.

Aero-Tech experience...

Several years ago, back when the know-it-all, big-brother-minded politicians decided that we were no longer able to make our own decisions as to what kind of lightbulbs to use, I discovered this company.

I ordered a box of six bug light bulbs for the outdoor fixtures at my mom's house. She has six fixtures that get used, so I planned on swapping in the Aero-Tech bulbs as the crappy bulbs failed, then she'd never have to worry about them again. HA! Not quite so.

It turned out that all six of them got used up before ANY of the other five EXISTING bulbs failed!!

I realize that this was likely a bad batch, and without question I should have called them, but you know how things get shoved on to the back burner.

Being rated for 20,000 hours, they are, of course, very dim. I'd estimate that these 60 watt bulbs are about like an ordinary 25 watt bulb in terms of output. Fine for an oven light though.

I thought the Aero-Techs would be somewhat of an end all be all solution to my grandmas lamp post and range hood light that would burn out frequently using regular appliance bulbs. So I got a pack of 60 watt bulbs for the hood and a pack of 100's for the lamp post. I think the longest I got out of them was 5 months of continuous on time. We still used them in the hood since they still burned out less frequently than the cheap bulbs, and I think later on they did last nearly a year of being on continuously. But still at a 20,000 hour rated life they should've lasted just under 2.5 years of constant on time.

I also had one of their 25 watt CFL's in the lamp post at home on a photo eye, installed it in April 2012 and it died September 2015. I calculated the actual run time of that bulb to be somewhere around 22,000 hours, and it was rated for 15,000. Now I have one of those 23 watt Home Depot house brand CFL's in there made by TCP that hasn't given up the ghost yet and we're coming up on two years. It would be funny if the cheap TCP bulb ends up outlasting the pricier Aero Tech.

Hi all
Aero-tech doesn't seem to have any A15 appliances bulbs on there site. Unless I'm just not seeing them? I don't think I can get away putting a standard size bulb in my oven. It's a tight spot. Thanks for the links and suggestions though
