Okay I'll bite, what exactly is wrong with those GE electric pumps? I've used them for decades in my custom builds and not one has ever failed on me. I've even run them for 15 to 20 minutes at a time for recirculation without any issues, although they are not suppose to run for that long without a rest.

The Hanning Elektro-Werke pumps are good, they got all the bugs worked out. It is was original Italian pumps that were junk however, they are very noisy and loudly gargle at the end of drain. They vibrate and are very poorly balanced causing anything its mounted to rattle and vibrate. Garment fibers / lint would get wrapped up around the impellers and bog down the motor. They frequently leaked with time due to the weak shaft seal. If anything hard got caught in the pump the impeller would just break. I can think of a dozen other pumps that are much better designed and much better suited for a washing machine.

I know you've used some of these, they are great for the cost and personally what I would recommend if looking for an electric drain pump:

The one you linked are the ones I've generally used. I believe I only have one pump with an external fan like in the image you show, although I've had no issue with it as well.

I’ve used the T model and newer GE top load washer pumps in a lot of things as well. They have worked very well. I don’t recall every single one fail.

The bad ones were the ones you pictured with the fan they had a shaft seal that would fail and caused the bearing to lock up. The fan itself would also come off sometimes it was just pressed onto the motor. The motors on those got so hot that the fans would just fall off you’d find them in the bottom of the machine.

It seems like the teens, the younger crowd, has been a major issue here in Philly.
And...... throughout the USA.
It's like they're having their parents do their laundry, instead of have been shown by them how doing laundry should get done. I don't need wifi to do my wash. I hate washers that constant sense loads unsatisfactorily. This causes not enough water to be put into the machine.

When I was young, I was curious about a lot of things.
I sometimes took things apart to understand how they worked.
That got me into trouble with my father, of course.
Mom taught me how to use the washer properly.
And cook some meals.

But today, kids couldn't care less about fundamental chores, all they know is how to stare at a smartphone, and text, play games, Apps, among other phone things.
Funny, they call them Smart Phones.... yet they're being used by stupid people.

Oh I think the adults said the same thing about us when WE were teenagers back in the 70s.

As for Maytag, they probably should not have bought Magic Chef and should have been like a Speed Queen and just made washers and dryers.

My honest opinion is that Maytag should've dropped all the designs they acquired and placed the Neptune, Magic Chef, Speed Queen, Amana, Modern Made ect names along with Neptune, Performa, Atlantis, ect on the dependable cares.

Keep everything the same with the same heavy duty components just with different names.

To be honest I like the control panel designs of the Atlantis, Performa, ect. Keep the design, but make it metal with heavy duty components and stick it on top of a dependable care.

Dependable Care did not do Maytag in, it was the Performas, Herrins, ect that leaked, burnt up pulleys, broke down, ect that caused people to bad mouth Maytag.

I love what Maytag had going, but it belong on the Dependable Cares and done in a manner where dependability took precedence.

When I moved into this house in 2005, I found high up on a shelf in the kitchen pantry a bunch of appliance owners manuals and installation manuals.
For the washer, dryer, garbage disposal, dishwasher, range, etc etc.
