When Is It Time To Let Go?

After a year & 3months of faithful no problematic service. my faithful hoover logic is very ill. Jon & myself were havin a lil wash in the logic was halfway through the main cycle when;

It began creating a burning smell & varying tumble speed. e.g when turnin anti-clockwise, it will either...tumble normally & throw everythin into distribution & slow back down again...or will struggle to turn if at all....& then when we ran it through a separate spin it didnt distribute at the right speed spun particularly slow.

Now im suspecting module problems & a burntout motor...anyone with any ideas throw them away...but now i'm in a postion where i ask myself....when is enough enough? i love this machine to bits. but do i spend a large amount of money on repairing it or do i replace it? any advice is more than welcome.

All things serious, as I said earlier on today in your garage I think it's probably best if you try and find another Logic, and dismantle your current Logic for parts. The Logic is your dream machine, and I have a feeling you may regret it if you get rid of that Logic and don't replace it with another. After all, how on Earth would you be able to live without 3 Hoover roller rinses!!!

Weren't these machines really popular? If so, surely cheap second hand parts should be easily available??

It's a lovely looking machine, I'd be inclined to try to hang on to it. It all depends how able you are to work on it yourself. If every problem means another expensive callout fee, it makes things difficult.

If you can check it over yourself - don't forget to start out looking at easy and cheap fixes first. A worn/slipping belt could behave like that, as could a water leak. (worn belt - slips, produces friction, gets hot, smells, turns eratically, doesn't get up to speed.) (slight water leak - water gets onto electronic module causing to to play up, ot gets onto belt making it slip and drive erratically, or gets into motor making it misbehave and smell.)

hey thanks chris,
yea im quite handy with my own maintainance. im not so sure the belt could be to blame i only replaced it a month or 2 ago.

i'll have a look. im hoping it won't be too expensive. i don't know weather to wait for one to come up on ebay & just replace it. and i'm also lookin for a vintage zanussi frontloader so its all very confusing.

I have a Splendide washer/dryer in my camper. It was new when I bought it. Very soon thereafter, it developed similar problems to the ones you describe. It was a faulty board that runs the machine -- the brain, if you will. It's been working perfectly since the main board was replaced.

lol oopz i realised i replied under jons username! silly boy didnt log out! d'oh!
i will maybe look at replacing the board & the motor. see if it makes a difference. bit of a pricey gamble is all im worried about. if its no good afterthat.

Hey Jon boy dont be givin Darren any ideas about overseas vintage, he needs the British Classics first....Lol

and as he has a Quartz and the Hoover, you are doin well, I would say stick with it, its always difficult when you have a new machine, we want it pristine, all working n washing...well even new machines sometimes come out the box not working...

It does sound like a speed controller problem, I thought SparkyCMRU was helping out with replacement boards etc??, are you sure its the motor and not the speed card thats the problem??, it could have shorted a circuit on the board and be fried etc...are there any signs of burnt patches on the board??

Do this simple tick list test.

Does it Fill
Does it heat
does it tumble wash
does it pumpout
does it spin
repeat rinse
final spin

At what point do you notice it fails to "function normally", make a note for a thorough diagnosis..
