Todd,
did mother also already know? Mine did, and my spouses. He was also married from 1984 through 1993. Hence my two step kids and now grand children. They lost their mom to breast cancer in 2005.
We all got along.
All of us deal with it our own ways in our own time.
I went out with a nice gal from work, Italian family like mine and all. No sooner had I met her folks, and they invited me back over on Sunday when the whole family would be there, her brother strolls in. Instant Ding!, and butterflies in the gut.
I did not pursue it any further. I knew myself before hand. I guess I was making certain by dating. I was twenty. The time had come sooner for me than many others, to stop the charade, not care what others think, and get on with life.
Everything happens for reasons, my mom used to tell us. After 11 years with my first, I got dumped. A year and a half later, I met my soul mate.
My spouse worked with a young guy who kept his boyfriends photo in his wallet, and told all the other co workers she was his girl, and her brother was only his room mate. So after they got to know one another for a while, My now husband came out to him, then asked if the sister was really his girl and all. Well, no, but I'm not out to my parents either. Do you actually think your mother doesn't know, he asked? A week later, he came out to his folks, and yes, they already figured as much. They didn't care, as long as they are in love and happy. Today they are also married. His dad told him with all the friends he had lost either to alcohol or drug abuse, accidents, or a war, that people need to live their lives and be happy.
I have a nephew who is also gay. We knew way before he came out. Not our place to say anything. My husband also has a nephew who has also never dated women. He is now 25. Irish catholic family. He lives so close to west Hollywood. While in San Francisco for a gaming convention, an older man hit on him. Not for dinner, or coffee, but just a shag. The nephew told everyone. Why? He also said he read the mans beads. Again why? If he really even did so. Why not just say, no thanks, or I'm not gay? It was San Francisco after all. Shane is also a very good looking red head.
More to the story maybe?
