A Built In Pool?

I didn't think that they would have those in residences that far north. Certainly couldn't get very much use out of it. I did think that this would be a comfortable house for those long cold blizzard full nights!

To be honest, a kind of odd combination of 60's ranch with more traditional 2 story. Positive: lots of open space in living room/kitchen/dining. Nice pool in the summer. Covered patio could be enclosed against skeeters. Looks light and airy. Decent size lot (1/4 acre?), level. Negative: Cathedral ceilings could be hard to heat esp in that northern climate.

Unknown: laundry room!

I like the second home better. Enclosed pool means potential year-round use (what could be nicer than a nice swim followed by hot tub in winter?). Lot is significantly bigger - over 1/3 acre. The "whimsy" is all in the decorating/furnishings, which could be yanked overnight and replaced with whatever style you prefer.

I'd have the pool inspected for leaks and proper plumbing/heating. Also check the structure around/over the pool for moisture problems/dry rot/termites. Big crack in driveway might mean ground settlement, or nothing at all.

Again, what about the laundry room???

Did someone say Brady house?

I took this picture of their house last June when Fred and I were in LA.
It was a real treat to see this place in person!

I like the first house Pete

Pete, that first house is fabboo! Your sectional couch would look great in that living room.

And what a bargain! That kind of green wouldn't buy much of a condo around here, much less a real house.

Nice house Pete but...

as the photo attests the Brady house is larger and more sprawling. But you can't beat that price for what the home is offering. And it has an inground pool, too.

actually...

The Brady house is kinda smallish looking when you're standing right in front of it.
You can't argue with the style though, I love the look.
The house is located in North Hollywood/Studio City. If you google search "Brady Bunch house" you'll find lots of info on it.

Well as much as I like them by the time we get everything settled around here it's unlikely either will still be on the market. But like cars and trucks there's always many more to be had. I love old Victorian houses and there are plenty of those available around there as well but I'm not sure if living in one is my "cup of tea". Our current house is a very modern ranch style with enormous and plentiful windows so the house is always extremely sunny inside, contrast that to a Victorian and I just don't know. Here's a Victorian house that has piqued my interest though.

Toggle, it's not that far north at 42.5 latitude, that's more southerly than Minneapolis. NYC's only 40 deg. Actually that's the one thing that puts me off about moving back there is the sweltering muggy summers when it's so unpleasant you can't even sit outdoors let alone do any yardwork. Nice in the evenings though. At least here if it's over 90 sweat doesn't get a chance to form on you because it evaporates almost immediately. When I've been home visiting in the summers and the central a/c is running in my moms house you don't dry off after a shower anywhere near as fast as you do here, then you step outside into what feels like a blast furnace and I'm soggy all again.. uggers.

I like the victorian Pete, but I still like the first house better.

Jason: The Brady house is up in the Hollywood hills, it backs up to the LA river, and its in a neighborhood of mostly ranch houses that have an early 50's flavor. Rough guess on its what it would sell for given LA real estate prices would be 1 million plus.

Here's a house that was up the street from us when I was still living at home, belonged to a friend of mines folks. I'd feel weird living in such a place. It's actually a nice house, looks better in person than the picture, at least as I remember it.
