Greg,

why not give Tide Powder with Bleach a try? I’ve been using it for my white loads and I really like it. Plus, it has a nice scent too. The only down side is where I live it only comes in the large box at $18.99 a hit, pretty pricey I think.

You could

Try to get more online.... or buy the German Power Pearls at germandeli.com.

I recently went back to Tide powder for a temporary change and was not disappointed.

Tomturbomatic has said this and it matches my experience: it’s good to switch detergents occasionally. One will clean up what the other leaves behind. Same thing is true of shampoos.

I will say that I still find nothing beats Tide with Bleach powder for cleaning and brightening. However, I cannot abide the scent at all so will have to find something else. Even Tide Mountain Spring's scent has changed and is very much like Tide with Bleach. I just don't understand it...

Interesting that you can't stand the Tide with Bleach fragrance.  I don't care for strong fragrances of any type and the Tide powder with Bleach leaves very little scent after the dryer.  I can't even say I notice it.

I use 1/4 cup in my Neptune front loader with the extra rinse option.

Any of the scented Tide liquids leave a much stronger scent that lingers after drying.  That's the primary reason I still use the powder.

Have found trick with nearly all Tide detergents

Is to use the smallest amount that will get the job done, and rinse well.

Am working way through a few bottles of various Tide liquids (Stain Release and Regular/Turbo) While normally couldn't abide any scented version of Tide, find if use about 15ml or so and following with good rinsing; things emerge with a *fresh* scent and not too much of an overpowering whiff.

Foe me the Persil

wins. Scent, power, the name, which I find more fun to say than "Tide."
Either one, "ProClean," or "2in1."

When I have no other choice but to cheap out, I get solid results with the regular all that's about 11 cents/use.

The Sears closest to me closed down.....so no more orange box.

“the name, which I find more fun to say than "Tide.”

As someone from the U.K. where the Persil brand has been on the market for 110 years this year, and is probably one of the UKs single most famous brands, has always been part of everyone’s vocabulary all our lives (just as i imagine is the same with Tide in the US). I find it amusing (in a good way) how you guys pronounce it - well from the YouTube vids I’ve seen anyway.

You say, per-seal with a seemingly clear but very quick separation between per and seal.

We say what I can only describe as pursul (with no space in pronunciation), the sul isn’t hard pronounced like SUL! Just a smooth flow straight off the per if that makes sense?

U.K. and German Persil

@panthera, no, I think ours is different as our Persil is owned by Unilever (interesting side fact, UK has no detergents on the market from Henkel, for the big brands it is just simply P&G and Unilever, with one or 2 niche manufacturers now too, then McBride who tend to do most of the own/private brands for stores).

Our Persil powders have never been the “megaperls”/bead type texture, but we do now have the God awful Persil Powergems, linked below if you’re interested and haven’t seen.

Have used the German Persil Powder once and the pods x2 and they’re were very good, but can’t remember them being any different is performance to our Persil, I did like the smell too which actually is different to ours.

Our Persil is also very good (supposed that’s why it’s the UKs best selling detergent), but on the last umpteen tests, Which? (Our version of consumer reports) have not been so swayed, saying its good but certainly nothing to write home about and you can get better. It’s always Ariel that tops performance on the Which? tests.

@foraloysius

Yes, that’s exactly it, they way they say it on the YT videos I’ve seen.

We say it as in the ad below, a nice musical advert and the word Persil is mentioned about 10 times, you know for verification of pronunciation :-D

Americans are buying Henkel Persil I suppose they pronounce it right

That was my thought, too!

Although I pronounce it more like the British way.

Challenges, challenges. I speak English, which suggests I should use the English pronunciation, but the product is from a German company (admittedly by way of a US subsidiary), and so perhaps I should use the German pronunciation.

I am quite taken with the PPP (Persil Power Pearls) also and I am using my remaining stash carefully now. I'd love to find more.

I do switch detergents with almost every load. I generally dislike the liquids but have a few on hand. Tide with Bleach and Gain powder have been the two I have fallen back on once the PPPs went away. Wishing I had bought a half dozen jugs at the end but I was a bit late to move :(

I bought 7 jugs of PPP (along with one on-hand) when the discontinuation was announced, while Target still had it available.  I strongly considered more but I'm leery of product deterioration on long-term storage.

Foralaloysius

Yes, will concede they are correct as using the Henkel versions :)

On a side note, the lady in the ad below, Jean Metcalfe a famous radio presenter back in the day. Has the RP (Received Pronunciation) accent, which is the Queens English and all pronunciations in that accent are the standard for the English language, and you will her pronunciation of the word Persil.

Anyone using the Unilever Persil, must say it the English way, the Queen commands it, haha 😂
