There is another way...

Pronounce it with a 'Z', so 'Persil' (as Jean Metcalfe pronounces it), becomes 'Perzil'. I've heard this quite a lot.

I wonder how it's selling in the USA...anybody know?

I personally have not tried it, I'm not opposed, but I prefer powders and I've only seen liquid versions of it.

Persil North America/USA Sales

Of the "American" stuff is not doing well at all; well at least P&G seems to have little to fear.

Fact that Tide "Simply Fresh" shows in the rankings but Persil does not, isn't a very good sign IMHO.

Someone’s...

Mum obviously doesn’t know.

Suppose that’s the problem when launching in to a category that is at 100% saturation and with a plethora of longstanding brands, it’s going to be very hard to distinguish a difference between you and the rest.

Let’s face it, taking on the the Tide brand in the US was never going to end well, it’d be just like someone coming along and taking on Persil or Ariel here. (I favour Ariel myself, which is the true top selling detergent, but due to the way sales are counted, Persil holds the title as best selling).

Would probably explain why there isn’t all that many detergent brand launches (can think of 3 major ones in my adult life). In every other category, brands are coming and going like the trains, detergent seems to remain even, doesn’t stop them re-jigging products under the existing brands, they change weekly 🤣

Yes,

They certainly did - Dingy whites was about the only thing more worse than a housewife not having her front doorstep scrubbed and the rinse water “joined” up with her neighbours rinse water by a certain time of the morning.

Persil was very good at appealing to women’s internal guilt of being subpar and not knowing what she should to achieve the whitest wash possible, exactly as mentioned in the business nightmares Persil Power program and also the washes whiter program. Persil was always marketed on the emotional side, about being a good mum, the keeper of the house and family. Ariel was always on the scentific side, they were this is what you need to get an immaculate wash and all your stains removed and that’s that.

From the about the 1 min 45 sec mark in this video

And if you watch the Persil and Ariel adverts in year order, from the playlist on the Laundry Lab YT channel, that format held very true from the advent of U.K. TV advertising in the 50s right through to the early 00s when advertising changed altogether due to the advent of social media, smartphones and streaming services. I do like old detergent adverts. Now it’s very, throw this pod in, keep away from children though and bye.

Persil

See, I would use Persil if it smelled better, wasn't as sudsy, and cleaned as well as Tide Ultra Stain Release. However, P$G has the winning combo for the TUSR. I really wanted Persil to be great but it fell short of my expectations. Again, anything up against Tide is going to have a VERY hard time.
