Yes! Is bleach just bleach or is Clorox bleach better? Is there a difference?
I've just run out of bleach and before going to store want to ask the question! (I've always bought Clorox). Thanks! Greg

It used to be that all bleaches stated their strength, but now not so much and it is harder to find. If you read the labels, some suggest larger doses so one would assume that they are not as strong. I think Chlorine bleach used to be 5.25% sodium hypochlorite and most of the store brands, like Kroger, were the same, but the latest jug of Clorox I have says 7.55%.

If the bleach states it's concentration, it's likely EPA registered and will be useful both to bleach and to disinfect. I've never seen a scented/thickened/augmented chlorine bleach which has a concentration stated. It's strictly a math exercise to get the proper concentration of 5.25 versus 6 versus 8.25 to do what you're looking to to. Likely any difference between bleach brands (within a concentration) is attributable to age and freshness rather than any "magic" ingredient. I have seen bleach outer boxes at stores (holding 2-4 gallons) stating the concentration even if the bottles don't.

Yes and NO

OK.  If disinfecting is wanted..  have not seen new label bleach..  Otherwise, have to look on back of label for EPA numbers.  EPA numbers all pesticides.  No EPA numbers Not a bug killer.,...

I agree that other than concentration, and possible other additives, chlorine bleach is all pretty much the same. I would not purchase liquid chlorine bleach that doesn't list the concentration. And if one gets a generic version with lower concentration, why not just use more of it? Not hard to figure out how much more might be needed, presumably.

Myself, I rarely if ever use chlorine bleach in laundry. I do have some in supply but for other tasks, such as disinfecting something really nasty. Or getting out stains on non-fabric objects, like concrete or plastic. I cannot remember the last time I needed to do, that, anyway.

I find STPP and hot water does the job w/o the need for any bleach.

One more

Consideration. DO read the expiration date!  Chlorine will lose strength over time, even with proper storage  guidelines.

Nuclear blast is not a very common possibility now, but earthquakes can happen almost anywhere, even in Ohio, or in other water borne disasters.

Mom always used Chlorox

Stated that Purex wasn't filtered and yellowed her clothes, hence only Chlorox was allowed in the house. If she were buying for non clothing usage i.e. Bathroom and kitchen floors, always scrubbed on hands and knees, she would buy the Safeway brand.

Now that's settled, mama said, and I still use Chlorox for clothes.
