Which is the Best Dishwasher W/P Powerclean or G.E. Brilliantclean?

My Moms dishwasher has died and she is getting really sick of buying a dishwasher every 2 years it seems.She won't let me put in a old K/a machine so when I move I will take it with me of course.I have heard in here alot of good thoughts on Whirlpool dishwasher with the Power-clean wash system.W/p only makes one of model with that wash-system the others are the Dura-wash which is a Big NO.I have tried and tried to talk her into a Old used one K/a that I have at our farm but NOPE she won't budge so I give up.So it is between the Whirlpool power-clean or a G.e. tall tub I don't know much about new dishwashers but I have heard alot of good things about that Power-clean system but I have heard good things about G.e. BrilliantClean.So any advice out there?

I don't have any experience/knowledge with regards to either the Whirlpool or the GE but I did purchase a new Kitchen Aid last Sept. and love it. Easy to load, quiet, and it cleans everything without pre-rinsing. The cycles are long however, about 1.5 - 2 hours.

The Whirlpool PowerClean model that they have is a very good choice. Plenty of power and cleans up a mess without pre-rinsing. Very good value for the money.
The GE made dishwasher I am used to had the MultiOrbit wash arm and the filter in the back. Very good machine and it had the Super Rack that held alot of dishes. The other 2 GE made machine were bottom of the line ones with only 2 wash levels and no filter. One was a GE and the other a Magic Chef.
The Whirlpool Quiet partner dishwasher I had in my house in Omaha would clean anything I threw at it. It had the tower in the lower rack and the "independent middle arm" and the top spray was a defector dish at the top of the tank. Very flexible machine and a key with that machine is to always load plates at the front. That way plenty of water gets into the silverware basket on the door. Always got great results doing it that way.
I dont know how the new GE's are but I do know that my sister in law has the KitchenAid superba stainless steel model and it has been repaired 4 times in 3 years. She said when it dies she will get a Miele like I have.

Every 2 years or so on a dishwasher? What is your mom doing to the poor thing. I have a Whirlpool Power Clean from 1994 and it great, never a repair. But then again I don't know what your mom is doing to her dishwasher and she might not get the same results.

My sister is almost just as bad but she went for 4 years with a Whirlpool tall tub and now has a GE tall tub and likes it. I have a GE tall tub profile and love it. But to me their is nothing like those hobart kitchenaid machines.

So she just doesn't get it that if she allowed you to install the KA she'd be done with replacing her DW every couple of years? What's not to like about that offer??? I'd tell her to buy whatever she wants, the cheapest thing out there, if she wants to go through this exercise every couple of years. Just about any machine will last that long regardless of what it is. It's not worth your trouble to try and help someone who is refusing the best of all possible solutions. Would it help if you got a female she trusts to express how much she wishes she could find an old KA machine even if she's just putting on an act? I know my own mom would usually take her best friend's advice over any she got from her own family.

Sorry Mom, but it's time for some reverse tough love!

I can vouch for the GE system. We have it in our 2003 GE Triton XL. Back then it was called the XtraClean system, exact same as BrilliantClean.

I would highly recommend the GE because I think they're the last dishwasher company out there with a real forceful pump. The WP TT machines are weak sprayers. Maytag is probaby pretty strong since they have that high pressure impeller and 1/3HP motor. I think the GE Quiet Motor is 1/8th HP.

DO NOT get a Frigidaire. Their impellers are so small, and the anemic 1/12 HP motor is pretty weak.

I bid GE. They're some of the most robust machines still out there. Of course they're only as good as their weakest link; electronics.
And today? All appliance electronics suck.

Maytag dishwashers...

If I had to get one today, I'd give serious consideration to the Maytag/JennAir units. The stainless talltub dishwashers are quiet machines and have ball bearing upper rack slides and heavily coated racks. The integrated controls on the brow really make for a nice look in the kitchen. Unfortunately, I've had to replace quite a few GE's. They are the favored builder unit to put in a new house around here and more than a few have had to go due to bad (and expensive) electronics...

As far as KitchenAids, I'd put my DWU9962AAE Intellisense dishwasher up against any of them. Probably the best dishwasher Maytag has ever or will ever build. It's a '98 model and outwashes most everything else... I almost feel like quoting Heston about prying it from my cold, dead fingers...

Whirlpool Woes

I just replaced a Whirlpool Quiet Partner III only 3 years old. The fan went out and would not dry the dishes. Also the spray was weak and left dirty dishes even with Cascade Complete. Out of all of the dishwashers I have owned, my Maytag was the best. If you are thinking about a new Kitchen Aid dont bother, they are exactly the same as the Whirlpools. Put them side by side guts side up and you will see.

What every you do don't get a Frigidaire

When I moved last summer, my new house had a Frididire dishwasher which was realtively new. It had the weirdest wash system I have ever seen. It only washes one rack of dishes at a time. It alternates between the top and bottom. I was very dissatisfied with that machine and replaced it after only a month of use.

All the GE machines I have owned have always served me well, I have not had a Whirlpool dishwasher so I can not comment honestely.

I have had two Maytag Jetclean dishwashers that were the absolute best. One in my old house installed in 1999, the other I just purchased to replace the Frigidaire. The lady at Lowe's told me that Whirlpool is sourcing some of the parts but they are still using the Maytag design.

If I were going higher end I would go with a Bosch, but lower to mid range the GE and Whirlpools have been around. The thing I didn't like about the Whirlpool was the silverware basket, but I have read some hints here in this thread that would dispell those fears.

GE Profile

My GE Profile is 7 years old and still working fine with no problems. Make sure whatever machine you get that it has NYLON coated racks, and not PVC. The racks in my machine are nylon, and still look like new, whereas PVC racks would have rust spots by now. My machine is quiet enough for most people who put it in a kitchen and not a library, and costs far less than the super quiet brands. It also uses a multwattage heater, which is on high for heating water, and low for drying, so you don't melt plastic items in the bottom rack during the dry cycle, another nice feature most people don't even know exists in this machine. A good machine for the money.

Well She got the Kenmore Standard tub Stainless steel Dishwasher.It has the Power-clean wash system in it and Nylon racks what shocked me the most was the Motor differnce between the tall tubs and the standard tubs.The one we got has a 6 Amp motor in it and the tall-tub said 2.7 Amps on it.Also what really bugged me was the bottom of the tall tubs looks like it would cavitate ALOT.She was really fixing to buy the L.g. dishwasher but I have not heard nothing on here about them and when I looked up the schematics of this Kenmore it is the same type they have been using for 20 years save for the Filter-ing system.Yes the L.g. looks cool but I have heard the instalation is a nightmare.
