Hi everyone this is my first post on the site!!! My question is what style of washing machine cleans clothing the best? Top load? Front load? HE? Standard efficiency? Also what machine do you think is best from the "style" of machine you pick, it can be a new machine or something with some time under its belt. Thanks!

what style washing machine cleans clothing the best?

Well that depends on a number of factors including detergent used and water temp for the wash.

Other than that, personally I would say,  #1 A std <strong style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;">efficiency top load with a real agitator.   #2 A modern HE front load washer.  Period.   Don't waste your time with an HE top loader with the wash plate (corkscrew auger included or not).</span></strong>

Personally

I prefer front loaders over top loaders now. However I do have to second to a comment another user made, If you want a good washer, Option A would be to pick either a Speed Queen, Whirlpool/Maytag or LG front loader. If you want a good top loader, skip right down to a Speed Queen top loader. Don't even bother with a HE top loader.

Myself....I have never used a wash plate machine so I cannot speak about one.  I have friends with them and they love them.  But I grew up with traditional agitator washers.  Then in 1997 I saw the light and got my first front loader, an Asko.  I'm still using that same Asko.  I just prefer the front loader to a top loader washer because:

1 - My clothes are cleaner (to me) than when I had a GE filter flo washer!  Stains that wouldn't come out in the GE washed out in the Asko

2 - They last longer.....still using some towels I bought in 2004, and have been used regularly.

3 - Less water consumption

4 - Higher spin speeds.....at that time, new top loaders just couldn't compete

5 - More rinses.....again, at the time I got mine, it was standard with 4 automatic rinses.  My house has a water softener...so multiple rinses are a must, even while using less detergent than one would normally use in hard water.

Again, these are MY reasons.  Your mileage may vary.  Get whatever works for you and you enjoy.

Personally

...this is my opinion.

I would say a real European front loader. Not because I'm European, I've used an American GE filter-flo top loader, a Korean Daewoo plate top loader but only European front loader satisfied me.

The main reason is the ability to perfectly clean whites.
For me a washing machine is good only if it is able to perfectly clean whites without bleach.

The second reason for me is the gentleness, so the ability to wash in the machine even extremely delicate hand washables.
Agitators increas friction, pilling and fuzzing on the surface of clothes even in high water levels.

Real profile wash from cold to hot, so better stain removal and not set in stains, high temperatures, higher spin speeds, much gentler on clothes, more rinses .... these are some reasons I personally prefer front loaders.

But if you have your own reasons that are different from mine you can get whatever works good for you :-)

Front loaders do the best job at cleaning, without danger of damaging the clothes. The most front loaders have also internal heaters,so cleaning efficiency doesn't be affected by temperature fluctuations from the tap or external boiler.Front loaders have more wash options than top loaders too.

if you went a true hot water wash warm water

if you went a good washer with a true hot water wash warm water wash with a true warm rinse if you need a warm rinse i would suggest a vintage washer as most modern washer have dumb down the water temp at fill this means that hot water is warm and warm water wash is more like a cool water wash but only you can decide since you are the buyer no one can decide for you and it all depends on your needs pictures are for an exemple credit to the member who originaly posted the pictures that i only saved up on my computer

In my opinion

I say go with a European front loader. I have used both Miele and Asko with excellent results. You may pay a little more up front for the machine and a little more for the parts, but overall they are great machines. If you want to go the cheap route you can usually find a few on your local craigslist. Also if you have issues everyone here is knowledgeable about one brand or another. Good luck in your search!!!!
