Thanks for the information! I have an opportunity to buy the set but I just wanted to make sure it is a belt drive. Without looking at the back, I guess the identifier would be the lid handle.
This should be an Imperial Seventy. LA7800-something. There was a higher-up Solid State Mark Series (LA9800) with electronic panels but Imperial Seventy was the top mechanical-control model.
About the Last Of The Great Belt Drive WP Washers
They appear to be in decent shape from the outside, and the dryer can go on for a couple decades longer with proper maintenance, the washer however could also be in great shape and last a while longer but if it has had even average use [ two-four loads per week ] it should have a complete tear down and servicing if you want these machines to operate properly for very long.
One thing for sure there was never a conventional TL automatic washer that did a better job cleaning your clothing while removing lint and sand and without tangling and wrinkling and excessive wear to your clothing.
This washer is why that WP built nearly 1/2 the washers sold in the US and when they wore out WP-KM had by far the highest number of repeat buyers, I always noticed in this business that customers that got great life out of a Maytag, or GE FF washer seldom wanted another one and were always very happy with a new WP Washer.

The Whirlpool belt-drive washer was indeed a good design, but the main reason they led the market by such a wide margin in sales can be summed up in one word: "Sears".
Not entirely true, Whirlpool branded washers out sold Maytag, Frigidaire, Westinghouse, Norge and WCI automatic washers, only GE-HP outsold the WP branded machines.
What I posted is entirely true, as long as you don't ignore my phrase "by such a wide margin".
Whirlpool branded washers were able to sell at such affordable prices because the Sears Kenmore line brought their production numbers up so high. The more you build, the cheaper they are to build.
Note that Chevy outsold Cadillac every year.

That's the ultimate whirlpool set I've been looking for high and low they are not around where I live . More often I run into are the direct drive whirlpool washers and there is many of them I don't find them desirable to buy I generally go for belt drives . Congratulations your a lucky man!

The belt drives had only one minor deficiency, IMHO. Their fastest spin speed was only about 525 RPM or so. Perfect for most fabrics nowadays, but a load of towels spent a long time in the dryer.

Best washer I ever owned. Hopefully someday I will find another one and have room for it. Best washing and rinsing ever. Especially delicate cycle.

The reason Maytag customers didn't buy another Maytag was because the one they had was till washing away long after Kenmore/Whirlpool models bit the dust and were replaced over and over. Maytag were the most durable machines ever made back in the day.
