Re: Wigwag Solenoid:

The Wigwag Solenoid assembly, is what shifted the WP/Kenmore Washers from Agitate, Neutral Drain, Spin with the Belt-Drive Transmissions. It is a real simple Repair, besides replacing the Safety Lid Switch.

If I lived closer to you, I would come and get this WP Washer from you, but I'm in the Northern Calif area, of the Capitol City. Please give others closer to your area a fair chance, before sending this WP Washer to its possible Crushing Day...

Where/What is a Wig-Wag?

Two solenoids in a bracket affixed to the shaft of a gear that sticks up out of the top of the transmission, and oscillates whenever the motor is running. In this view, the right solenoid controls spin, the left agitate/drain. If there is agitation but no spin, the spin solenoid may be bad. Or, the pin in the plunger guide may be broken, in which case the solenoid will energize but the cam bar won't shift to engage spin.

what a shame

It's a shame about this particular washer because I think a lot of appliance nuts out there could probably restore a BD Whirlpool gearcase, and that control panel design looks identical to the control console that one of my aunt's Whirlpool washer had(but her's was white, not avacado like this one)and another aunt of mine had a belted white Whirlpool washer with this same design control panel in the late 1970's to early 1980's.
