Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

if you noticed the lights dim a bit when the washer buzzed but
failed to run on high speed, there might be a problem with the
motor-starting switch problems,a bad connection,etc.
even if the motor is bad(very, very rare)they are very easy to
obtain and replace with very wide year coverage.

Extra nice

That is an absolutely beautiful Whirlpool set. I remember seeing these on the sales floor at Swallen's on US 50. They were Cincinnati's largest Whirlpool dealer - I'm sure Pete (Rollermatic) will remember that store. It's been out of business about 14 years now. Hope the washer won't be too much problem to fix.

CLEANING UP WASHERS

You should never run undulated bleach through any washer or dishwasher it is very corrosive to metal and ruins rubber parts as well. Always dilute per instructions and never leave in a machine more than 30 minutes and than rinse it all out of the machine.

Wow! Unbelievably beautiful! They literally look like they came off the showroom floor! Even the removable informational stickers were left intact. I wish you all the best of luck in getting the washer running again. With all the knowledge and expertise on here, I'm sure you will.

Glad to hear you have an appreciation for the quality and durability of yesteryear :-)!

I think we'll have that washer up and running soon. Kevin is a smart, mechanically minded guy and what he isn't able to do on his own we can help him get done I'm sure!

As to the dryer, I can't get over the mint shape of the drum. It sure looks unused! My mom's 1983 Kenmore dryer and my 1978 Kenmore dryer have a lot of finish worn off, expecially on the rear bulkhead. Just look at that one - it's perfect! My '78 model is so well used that on the lower left, there is almost no paint. I should photograph that and show it here for comparison.

Have a good day everyone!

Natalie... You are so lucky to have this beautiful Whirlpool set. Definitely top of the line for it's time and it is so rare to find a set of this age so well taken care of. I'm sure Kevin and Matthew will have them running like new again after their visit. Best of luck and welcome to the vintage appliance appreciation community!

Hello Lovepuppy--your name is irresistible!

and your machines look brand new. It's great to see 35 year-old TOL Whirlpools looking like they just came from the factory.

I have the less gifted sibling of your machine.

Here are some real ugly dickling shots especially when juxtposed with your glorious laundry room. For some unknown reasons, this club just loves mid 70's Golden Whirlpools.

Enjoy and welcome to Washer Love

You motivated me to master the new Search-a-lator and find this thread from 4 years ago. Thank you.

Michael

Wrong posting link above, sorry!

Lovepuppy, you have a wonderful set, like everyone said, keep them!
The newer stuff may look nice but will not last as long as these. I just replaced my refrigerator last month and it was only 7 years old, how's that for quality?

This set reminds me of the Harvest Gold LDA-5800 set my father's cousin had. She bought them in late 1976 after remodeling her kitchen along with a HG refrigerator and stove; talk about a 70s kitchen. I remember they replaced a 1962 600 Kenmore set which they gave to a friend. I don't know how long she had the Whirlpools, but they sure did look good together.

The hubby's not only on board now...

...but is running with it. He suggested last night that we find some vintage Tide or other laundry-themed ads, frame them, and hang them up in the laundry room. Thanks everyone, for convincing him that Harold and Madge are worth saving!

How fun that you have named your machines. The framed ads is a great idea but how about some real vintage detergents, softeners, etc for display!

I know that I'm in the minority here but, I've never been a big Whirlpool fan. I prefer my Maytag's, and Speed Queen's. But I have to admire the condition of this set. I'm happy to read that your hubby is getting into the vintage machine "craze" too. Once this set is repaired, it will easily last another 30+ years with a little TLC.
