Whoa!

Well, maybe Lowes could be persuaded to bring back the vintage Maytag washer design :)

And at the same time they can bring back belt driven Whirlpools with the SuperSurgilator Agitator instead of cruel action agitators.

They won't bring back anything!

They will have their own less expensive brand, Take that Home Depot!

My center dial Maytag A208

bought new in 1978, was 359.00.

Standard capacity, dark blue wash basket.

According to westegg.com/inflation, 359.00 from 1978 would equal 1,129.00 in 2007 (most recent year available).

I don't know too many people who would willingly pay that much for a standard capacity washer these days.

Is it possible for Whirlpool to get anymore screwed up than it is? Let's face it none of these companies are as good as they once were, which to me is really sad.

I'm gonna babble.

Forgive me if I babble, but this notion of Lowe's acquiring Whirlpool leaves me with a sense of forboding. Someone's gonna take a dump.
Here's why. As we all know, Whirlpool and Sears have been thisclose in business for well over 50 years, maybe close to 100 years. Sears, Warwick and Whirlpool all seemed to do sort of a rotational business over the years. When Warwick (primarily owned by Sears) was sold to Sanyo years ago - who took over Thomas Organ? Whirlpool. When Whirlpool needed to sell washers, vacuum cleaners - who bought them? Sears. When you call for service on Whirlpool, who tends to get dispatched? Sears/A&E. Back and forth back and forth. One back scratches the other. Ok. We all can see that Sear's loyalty to Whirlpool has waned over the years as we now see Electrolux, GE, LG etc rebadged to Kenmore. No surprise. We can see Kenmore as less dependent upon Whirlpool but not yet divorced from them. NOW... What if LOWES buys Whirlpool? What does that mean? It means a BIG competitor of Sears for home appliances gets good control of a Sears-centric company that makes a BUNCH of Kenmore products. Does this mean anything? Maybe. First of all, I really doubt that Lowes can afford the world's largest appliance manufacturer. However, is Lowes trying to pull Whirlpool away from Sears to frighten Sears into becoming acquired by Lowes? Or vice-versa? Is Lowes telling us indirectly that a Sears failure is imminent? (Actually I hope not, I like Sears). Kenmore is key to Sears so anyone playing with Whirlpool (especially a retail competitor) is going to make Sears squirm a bit. I was just at Sears and noticed the usual abundance of Whirlpool. Somehow I don't think Whirlpool is the issue. I think a Sears-Lowes catfight is gonna occur soon. Whirlpool is the "rope" with Sears and Lowe's playing tug-of-war at the ends.
Let me admit that I AM NOT a business major. This disseratation may be complete crap. Ultimately I think we're gonna see a Sears-Lowes merger or buyout and Whirlpool will be shared tidily among the two.

Since Sears is now owned by K mart

I doubt ANY merger at all. K mart sears & lowes it aint gonna happen!
