Whirlpool plans to cut 700 jobs

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Read on ApplianceMag.com that Whirlpool is closing down fridge/freezer capacity in the United States and moving those jobs to Mexico. This is in anticipation of the down turn in the major appliance market as the housing "boom" is now over and home sales are slowing.

New home sales have been behind much of the run up in new appliance sales these past years, all those new kitchens and such to be fitted out. With that demand declining, all that will remain is replacement sales, which is not enough to keep plants in the States working.

A little off topic, but did anyone hear about F&P possibly producing agitator-less models similar to Oasis/Cabrio in the near future?

Thought i read that speculation somewhere.

Same here in Oz

Yes it seems India is the place to be if you are unemployed, just this week we have had another of our banks (St. George),saying they are moving 80-90 call centre jobs to India in the name of supposed "efficiency"!! hhhmmm cheap labour is more like it.
This now adds to Australian jobs which Australian banks have sent offshore,Westpac Bank,Commonwealth Bank,A.N.Z. Bank and now St. George.
Thanks a lot to the Australian Government in the early 1980'swho deregulated the banking industry and floated the Australian Dollar on the international market.
Added of course to Electrolux's decision to move whitegood manufacturing to Asia although this hasd already been posted on another thread elsewhere.
The future seems to be very bleak indeed.
Cheers.
Steve.

Whirlpool does a major acquisition, and then plans to cut 700 jobs company-wide? I'M STUNNED! Who didn't see this one coming? And more layoffs of Americans to happen between now and 2008, while many of the functions are moved out of the country.

Now I know where they got the neutral drain concept that leaves the scum at the top in place.
