Hello,

Got the washer and dryer in place and we are finishing up the cabinets. We bumped the washers timers a few times and now it will only turn when you turn the skirt not the knob. We haven't plugged them in yet since the install only sized them for the purposes of fitting them. I imagine the timer will still work on the washer but of course it bothers me that I can't turn it from the knob. Is getting a new timer out of the question, can I fix the old timer? How can I open the machine up to examine if something came loose? I'd like to at least lube the motor and moving components before we finish up the install.

We totally love these little green guys and would like to find a full size vintage pair (not for regular use, we just love vintage stuff). Just for comparison what does a full size version of these look like?

We purchased a foam circle and we intend to cut it to keep the washers tub from banging around when we drive.

Thank you all!

It sounds as if the shaft for that inner timer knob has broken - you may be able to glue it but you'd have to carefully remove the timer knob and then pull off the broken part from the timer shaft.   In a worst-case scenario, you may be able to find a replacement knob - if you have an appliance repair shop that also sells reconditioned machines near you, try them first.

Inner Knob

The inner knob still pulls out and pushes back in but doesn't seem as connected as it was initially. Does anyone have any guidance on how to investigate? I'll be REAL careful!

Broken Timer On A WP BD Compact Portable Washer

Hi, You need another timer, although you may be able to still use the washer as long as you either push the timer knob in [ or unplug it ] when you manually advance it to set the cycle.

If you are really clever you may be able to fix the sheered part in the timer.

Good news is it is easy to replace the timer on these washers, you just use a putty knife to release the top at the front then remove the timer knob and dial the two screws behind the dial and lift out the timer and unplug from the harness.

putty knife

I tried using the putty knife to open the top, is there a specific place I should be putting the knife? I felt some give when I pushed on some places but the top didn't open. Very appreciative of your help, is there anyone who would have a replacement timer I could purchase? Just trying to be very careful and not damage anything.

Pretty much opening the top up is similar to the full size belt drive washers and I have experience since I’ve lifted the top up on my Kenmore portable washer and full size 1963 RCA Whirlpool Imperial Mark XII washer.

tops open, now what

Hello,

SO what am I looking for, is there a clip that fell off thats making the timer knob stick out so far? Is there a source for a replacement timer?
