I seen a newer Whirpool Stack washer and dryer the other day and was able to have a look at it. A few interesting things to note. First it still has an old style timer, and not just a cycle selector. Despite having markings for wash time, it also has a separate soil selector switch. Curious to know how that plays into the chosen cycle and time. The agitator seems to be a bit different as well, it is marked as a high efficiency agitator, but the fins on the bottom are taller than the ones on a wash plate or an agipellor, though they still aren't as big as the ones on a regular agitator. Does whirlpool sell an equivalent stand alone machine Similiar to this??

the timer dial is more simply a fabric selector and the soil level adjust a bit of water temperature selected as well as aggressiveness of agitation.
