My year-old Whirlpool washer has failed me already. Unfortunately, these are my three options. Speed Queen was looking pretty good with their 10-year warranty. Then I started reading the complaints. Several people complained that the SQ left their clothes with an unpleasant smell, and said the SQ warranty does not cover bad smells. I bought a new Whirlpool just over a year ago, but the reviews on Whirlpool are worse than SQ. It looks like I'm stuck with Samsung. But I have to wonder: Is Samsung any good, or are they garbage too? Thanks in advance.

Front Load?
As a Maytag top load owner, what Whirlpool model did you have that only last a year :-(? Many of these share the same parts.
Are you wanting a top load or front load washer? The mold issues I have heard about have been with front loads.
For what it's worth, I had an LG front load. I had no issues with it. I left the door open, and I ran a load of hot (occasionally with bleach but usually with Oxi-Clean) at least once a week. It had an internal heater and Sani-cycle option. I would not buy a front load without some may of having a super hot cycle. I did not use fabric softener either. The rinses in most of the washers now are cold, and softener does not work well with this. It can build up in hidden areas of the machine too.
I only had two repairs in ten years that I could fix myself. One was a rotor that vibrated loose. The other was a drain pump (bobby pin took that out. At around ten years the bearings went out on the washer. The parts were not that expensive, but it was a very labor intensive repair for me. Also, I do not have the tools to do it. I felt I got my money's worth.
If I were going to buy a front load now, I would look at the LG wm3900. It is supposed to have steam option. I haven't kept up with the front loads as well, so hopefully others will chime in. The biggest issue I have seen with LG is unless you can fix them yourself, the repair people tend to favor Maytag/KitchenAid/Whirlpool/Speed Queen at least in my area.
One nice thing about the LG front load, is they have made it easier for the consumer to repair certain things themselves. Also, it *may* have a screw you can adjust to make the water level higher. In my old LG, I adjusted the water so it came up just to the bottom of the door. I know Lorain Furniture has a video on it. I think there a few other reviews by others on YouTube as well.
If you get a top load, look at the TC5. It is the best overall top load in my opinion especially with the 10-year warranty. The Maytag mvwp575gw I have is between it and the less expensive top loads. When I needed a top load, the older 2017 models had sold out. The TR series wash action would not work for *us*.

Maytag reviews from consumer affairs look as poor as Whirlpool. According to their input, it appears Samsung is the least of the evils. Speed Queen was 3.2/5. Whirlpool was about 2/5. Samsung was 3.8/5. It's still a gamble either way, but I can live with 3.8. It's just a crying shame what the stinking government did to washers. Can't even get one with a real agitator any more.

You can always use the Affresh tablets for odor. One a month worked great with my Maytag Centennial for @ 5 years I owned it prior to the divorce. Dont know if she will follow the regimen but theres 2 years of tablets in the laundry room if she does.

So what was the failure? Have you considered service?? Replacing a year old washer seems ludicrous to me.
More information is really needed, like what model is it. Were you happy with it while it was working etc? Hard to make any recommendations based on so little to go on.
Also, remember that Internet reviews really tell very little about if a machine will be good or not. Especially any complaints of odor which are caused entirely by the user not using the machine right!! My advice is to pay no attention to online reviews, or Samsung for that matter...

Depending on the failure, You may still be under warranty. I would contact WP service. Though A&E factory service is a joke, if it is something like electronics that is covered for 5 years, you may come out ahead.
FYI. Whirlpool Maytag are now SEALING their FL tubs shut.
The bearings are no longer accessible or repairable.
I think LG and GE and Elux and maybe Samsung still have FL models where the wash tubs can be split for bearing repair.

Bad on Whirltag then. I just printed the Samsung 4.5 cu. ft. front load washer service manual, and their tub is still split, bearings and spider both serviceable.
One youtuber said he did the repair in 4.5 hours, with no prior experience.
Ours is going on it's 4th. month of use, and still very satisfied with it. Removes stains well, uses less water than our old top load impeller machine did. Spins a large load nearly dry on med. high speed. Smaller loads on medium.
W also shied away from a Whirlpool product because most have the entire bottle dispenser. Something else to clog up. I do 3-4 loads per week now as opposed to at least 5-6 with the old washer for two of us.

If I had to buy a brand new washer today, I'd buy a SQ Homestyle top load washer (basically a 2017 SQ). Then buy a new 2017 series 9 control board off eBay. Replacing the control board takes 5 min. I've done it to make my series 8 speed queen a series 9. Simply keep your old control board around Incase you need to swipe it back in for a warranty call.
If that is too much of a hassle, I'd get Speed Queen TC5. Looks to be an amazing washer!
Combine one of those washers with some good ol' tide powder and you will have CLEAN clothes. We have a mulberry tree in our back yard. My son came inside from playing one day with his shorts covered in mulberries. I didn't do any special treatment to the shorts, because I thought they were done anyway. I just threw them in with the rest of the clothes and washed like I normally do (Whites preset, warm temp, xlarge load size, Max soil level, powder to line 5). The tide powder and 2017 SQ removed evert single mulberry stain on those shorts!
