Hello All, my “new” 1985 Whirlpool LA7680XMN has decided to stop spinning. It performs all other cycles as it should but after the neutral drain, will not engage into spin cycle. Any suggestions?

I will probably not be the only one...
Who says that the lid switch may be malfunctioning since the switch has to work for the spin to engage.
It would be the first thing I would check.
(Assuming that you do not leave the top up throughout the complete cycle.)

Also check the wig wag and wiring in that area. That is the second item to check.

Yeah, I normally bypass the lid switch first thing but didn’t on this machine. Will try that, then take a look at the wig-wag. Awesome machine with all the familiar sounds, etc. Must have been the last year (1985) before the DD’s took over...

No Luck Bypassing Lid Switch
Lid switch doesn’t appear to be the issue. Looked at wiring around the wig-wag and all seems to be in working order.
When the machine goes from neutral drain to spin, there is no change or click to even remotely make it sound like it’s trying to engage in spin. Same on both speeds — no sound at all like it wants to spin. Pump, motor all in working order.
Any suggestions welcome!

Look at the operation of the wig-wag
The wiring may be fine but the solenoid could have failed. Here is Sean's (Maytag85) video of a wig-wag mechanism in proper working order for comparison.
Try putting an ohm meter on the solenoid to see if it has gone open, too.

Those wires constantly move/flex when the machine runs, not unusual that one breaks inside the insulation. Check for voltage at the spin solenoid wires when it should be activated.
Can also be the solenoid and wires are good but the plunger is broken. Or the plunger is otherwise OK but the brad/rivet in it that catches in the cam bar slot is broken. If so, a small suitable nail carefully bent so it doesn't slip out can be a workable fix.
well, as a oddity of ruling things out....
and as you know that agitation works....
switch the two wires on the wigwag....set the machine for agitation, and when that kicks in, see if the tub tries to spin....
at least that will tell you if the solenoid energizes

Well, after trying all of your great suggestions, I think I’m stuck with a bad solenoid. That said, are these still available? Anyone have a lead on where to find one?

That is the correct part, 84867. Richard's suggestion has a reasonable price as well.
You can check with a few parts suppliers in your area Todd, but I am not sure how likely they would be to have one.
You can also use 89814, this has the same wig wag/control magnet but also two new plungers. Plungers may not be necessary...

What a beautiful machine. COuld you post some more pics and possibly a money shot of it? Only 1 pic posted in your post, these are my all time favorite vintage machines.

A beautiful set, for sure, and you can’t be that Double Duty Super Surgilator! Very clean machines but need to scrub that lid a little more. Came with original owner’s manuals, too.
These are newer models that I don’t typically prefer (and in Almond, no less!) but am taking what I can get to replace what all I lost a couple years ago. Sadly was hoping I wouldn’t be having problems already, but a new wig-wag is on the way and let’s hope I can figure out how to replace it with minimal trouble! I’m okay with replacing belts, motors and such, but this will be my first time doing something like this.
