Who built this Admiral dryer?

The neighbor across the street asked a few weeks ago if I wanted their washer & dryer when they move.  I said "sure" without knowing what they were. 

 

I last weekend I was able to get a very brief glance at them.   The washer is a p-o-s 90's-2000's GE w/stainless steel tub and sounds like a freight train when spinning as the bearings are shot.  It will be kicked to the curb.  I only focused on the name of the dryer and thinking it was a re-badged WP, figured I could scavenge some parts. 

 

However, yesterday when I removed them from the house, I realized the dryer wasn't built by<span style="font-size: 12pt;"> </span><span style="font-size: 12pt;">WP after all.  </span>

 

<span style="font-size: 12pt;">My questions are: #1 being built in Herrin, IL, who made this dryer?  #2 Can anyone tell me how old it is?</span>

Herrin, IL is the clue.
I believe it's the old Amana plant.
So whatever entity owned Amana at the time.
I think it's somewhere between Raytheon and Maytag.

Thanks John, Amana makes sense, I knew "Herrin, IL" was a giant clue, but just wasn't "ringing any bells" as to who built what there.

 

Is the dryer any good, or is it a POS like the GE washer that I collected with it?

It's a Norgetag, not Amana.  Amana was in Searcy, Arkansas.   This is exactly like the first Performa models from Maytag (PYE1000).  Age-wise, it's probably from the late 1990's (98-99) or very early 2000's. 

 

The big thing is these fill up with lint where the lint filter goes.  That tube gets LOADED.  This leads to thermal fuse failures.  Not a bad BOL dryer.  I still re-sell many of the later models of these dryers after good cleanings and lubing.

The dead giveaway is

that lint filter that doesn't go all the way down in your picture. Its full of lint down there. We sold tons of these under the Crosley label in the 90's.

Not a horrible dryer, but SLOW. We had the Maytag/Norgetag GAS version for about 5 years, and while it was very reliable, it was noisy and slow. It did eventually dry (yes, I kept the lint filter duct clean, along with the short, solid vent) and it took 1 1/2 hours (+) for a normal load. Nothing wrong with it, working as new, just a slow dryer in general. Plenty of airflow but not very hot. Held a large load and the auto dry settings were spot on. Normal dry dried perfectly. The matching washer held a HUGE load and washed it well, but guzzled water.
