the other side

Here's the other side, which has a grill not currently installed. Earlier this year I slapped a little john deere green paint on the compressor. I could slap on a little more, too.

Hopefully this spring I'll finish painting the case and re-install the grill, which is purely cosmetic anyway.

name plate

International Oil Burner Company seems to be the manufacturer.

They don't build 'em like this any more.

omg that unit is ancient! the 1970 ge that used to be in my house or shall i my dads house the fan grill was badly rusted and didn't last as long as yours broke down in 1998 and was replaced in 1999 with a bryant hi efficiency unit. the heating unit broke in 1986 and was replaced with a hi efficiency rheem which is still in service up to this day.

Fonografomaniac:My mom's Levitt home was near Upper Marlboro Md,her home had the warm water heat pipes under the slab.Their was no basement in the home.the ductwork for the AC was above the slab.Rmember having to chip up the area on the slab behind the GE washer-had to repair the pipe joints under there -guess they would leak from the vibration of the washer to the pipe.Other neighbors had to have their slabs opened to repair the warm water heat pipes under the slab-would leak.My Moms home never had that problem.Just the walls--I was trying to nail some baseboard to the wall and floor--and the wall was moving!!Got behind it and it was never nailed to the baseplate on the slab.Had to do some of Levit's carpentry after the home was built. It was a later Levitt home-built in the late 60's when Levitt would hire anyone and give them boards, hammer, nails, saw and a screwdriver and told them to build a home!Had to fix some of their blunders!Other neighbors had their Levitt builders horror stories!Sorry I was late in getting back to you-but had transmitter "Horror" stories that night. Was in a busted transmitter most of the night. Now its calm.

i noticed cracks between the moulding and the carpet grip. i was told that the levitt where we live had rush jobs when being built.

Also in the Levittown community where my Mom lived they formed a homeowners association to try to get Levitt to fix the various problems.ended up the householders were on their own.The state and county couldn't get Levitt to fix the problems in the homes.Levitt lost his homebuilders license in the Wash DC area.Md,Va.

another levitt problem

on some of my article i mentioned that the ductwork run through the slab. well, one time i was at someones house 4 yrs ago and they were getting a new hvac system. anyway, they ripped out the old furnace and a-coil and in the part of the plenum where the airflow takes off was partailly blocked with cement cause restricted airflow for 32 yrs of service the old ge unit. i been noticing in some other houses around there that not enough airflow comes out the vents especially the upstairs. my dads house has that problem only upstair because of a long run, elbows, and the vents are on the ceiling instead on the floor like the other houses.

Fonografmaniac:In my Moms Houseas far as I knew there was no concrete blocking the air polenums or other airpaths---However they put a water pipe right in front of the AC air handler where you have to change its air filter! Was quite a challenge to get the old filter out and a new one in-you always bent up the filter-but it still worked! also the water pump motors on the slab heater were difficult to reach to oil their bearings-the usual Ball-Gossett pump motors.I managed-had to contort to reach the motors to lube them. Was kinda on the back of the furnace-boiler unit.
