Our c. 1977 Maytag A608 washer and matching DE308 electric dryer have started acting up, and as I'm no longer living in Vermont, no one's around or willing to fix these Avocado Green beauties. The dryer tumbles but doesn't heat. Perpetual problem either with the high-heat thermostat, the heater coil, or the high - heat wire. That's been replaced twice. The washing machine doesn't spin enough to extract any water - may be the belt. Plus the cycles never worked right so I suspect the timer mechanism is bad. Regular doesn't spin, you have to turn the dial to the rinse/spin part of the knits cycle and spin it dryish. We've been doing this for years. Permanent Press never worked right since we bought them (with the house)in 2003. Getting the pair out of the basement will be real challenging too. We'll have to get the bulkhead door open somehow (sealed with some super hard acrylic) and hoist them out of the Pit of Despair. The stairs and doors are too narrow to go that route. Who doesn't love a challenge? I'll get the kid to take some photos and post them. Free if you'll help get them out, $100 if you won't.
