Air Freshener

Thanks for reminding me. This Lady does have the freshener option. In fact, the bottle's still there and the freshener inside is still viable. When the dryer was running, you could smell the scent coming out the exhaust. Why is it that, in the bottle, the smell is almost over powering but coming out the exhaust smells not really bad?

That's the concentrate!

A little goes a LONG way. I don't know how much it dilutes it, if at all. It just may be the scent from the liquid that's strong enough to air through the dryer. I remember how strong that smell was it you held that bottle to you nose. Overpowering! But it left a nice scent through the dryer. Don't ask me why I was huffing dryer scent when I was in 7th grade! HA!

Kind of like a surprise with residual benefits.

This had to take your mind off your current situation.

Remember, rooves are not there for falling off of.
If that were the case, more people would be doing it. You just know that a certain percentage of the population would.

design changes

The original version of that dryer had a plastic lint grill that was held on by screws and the sensor bands were on the drum itself like the earlier ones. Also the first dryers of this design had snap rings like the maytag has to hold the drum rollers in place instead of the plastic tri-rings still used today. The later dryers also had a plastic removable drumlite lens(they fell off).Is that what you meant John?

There's a reason it's "Fiddler On The Roof"

You never heard of the Fiddler falling 10ft off the roof and breaking his femur and compressing L3-L4 in the movie. Lets just say I didn't hold back on letting the neighborhood in general know how I felt. My Grandfather the Navy lifer would have been proud...

Sciatic pain is a unwelcome companion.

No, the surgery is bariatric in nature. I'm tired of carrying an extra me around and want to become half the person I used to be. Scary! This dryer was the therapy I needed. Glad I could share the dryer.

Lady K Dryer

That is a beautiful dryer.I sold a few of those back in the day.I gave a tune up to the first version of that dryer 2 weeks ago for a 90 year old woman who had this house that looked like it hadnt been touched in 60 years.Looked just like the house in the Three Stooges comedy,Spook Louder.

Early Design changes in the new style WP built dryers

Yay Mark K wins the prize * , as you spotted the two changes I was thinking of and the additional change from metal clip rings to the triangular nylon plastic rings that locate the rear drum rollers.

This dryer that Andy is working on was built the 39th week of 1967 and it is amazing when you think that essentially the same dryer is being built today 45 years later. Not only has this got to be the most produced dryer ever it is certainly in the experience of many the best dryer design ever in terms of efficiency, speed, reliability and simple easy repair ability. I wounder if Leslie could find out how many of this style dryer WP has built, must be over a hundred million which is roughly how many DD washers were produced.

* prize yet to be determined, let me know if you ever need something, John.

Beautiful dryer Andy. I had a WP we bought new in 1971. After 10 years I opened it up and it was very clean inside. Like the one you just opened. They were truly good dryers in those days. Good luck with the surgery. Good for you taking the step. I have a couple of friends who have also done this with no regrets. Much healthier and both have kept most of the weight off. Dano

You don't find many dryers this pristine at the age of 45 years old. The matching washer must also be a gem. This design was the best, and Whirlpool was very wise not to make changes to it.

Good luck with your sugery Andy.

Prize

Who is Mark K?One other change was the center of the rear drum panel was changed to include these two little tits.Bendixmark aka Mark Ellis.Don Pardo tell him what hes won!

The two little tits... More than a mouthful... Oh never mind

Those were for a shoe rack, yes? Also, were those door cables that always broke and let the door fall down changed to this door hinge design? I can't remember the years that they used the nylon covered door cables...

RCD:

Yes, the little indentations were the rear supports for the shoe rack, so that you could dry sneakers, etc., without tumbling and the blam, blam, blam noise we're all familiar with. Sears thought of everything on the Lady K's.

Speaking of those door cables, are they still available or NLA? My aunt's 1965 Kenmore 800 needs a set, and I want that machine taken care of, since the plan is for it to come live with me someday, and a matching washer found. The dryer was purchased new by my grandmother - her first and only dryer. She bought the pair, but the washer was replaced in the late '80s or early '90s. I'd like to reconstitute the set in her memory.

Door cables...

I don't know the status as of NLA or not but thankfully I have a decent stash.

Speaking of shoe racks, when did Whirlpool/Kenmore first introduce the shoe rack?

Pretty Lady. Elegant in white.

Did this dryer also have timed cycles?

Also, do you know if the beautiful finish is some kind of paint or is that some kind of baked-on finish. I have a couple of dryer drums where the paint is actually peeling off and I was wondering if one could repaint it.

Andy that is one of the best dryers ever

I have the electronic KA version John was kind enough to decide I needed it years ago. Its gas and runs smooth. In these WP's I have never seen a wrinkled load come out of them. And the ones with itellidry never shrink anything.

I have no idea how she kept that so nice all these years. Its amazing how appliances the same age can end up at opposite ends of the spectrum!

Hope your back is healing, lower back can be nasty! Since I have been using the teeter hang ups I am amazed at the return of flexibility. I remember throwing my back out many moons ago and 3 weeks after I still couldn't step or down off a curb in Boston without major major pain! Thats when I started back yoga and have never quit since.

Door Cables!

One broke on my old frogeye and the next time I used it the other one broke.Went to the Sears parts store and got a new set for like 3.95,that was in around 1996.They were plastic covered and still on it.Very easy to change took about 10min.
