Beans on Toast:

Are a terrific British invention, making a quick budget-stretching hot lunch that warms the tum. I don't get root-ti-toots from them, but your mileage may vary. My British friends Mavis and Peggy in Atlanta turned me on to them years ago, though they never got me to enjoy builder's tea.

Very simple to do: Make toast, allow to cool a bit, butter. Spoon hot baked beans over. Salt and pepper as you will. Many Britons like grated cheese on them, sprinkled over and allowed to melt from the heat of the beans, but I'm not a fan.

Bit starchy, perhaps, but overall, I'd say they were far better for you than almost anything you can get in one of America's fast-food emporiums.

The most space saving compact household microwave is the whirlpool M.A.X.
It has a 13 leiter capacity but it can hold a normal dinnerplate of 28CM.
Quite cute if I do say so myself :)

danemodsandy: i mix cheese into the beans whilst warming hmm ( it has to be branston beans )

sewcoolwash. is that whirlpool a record breaker? no.

I'd love that Heinz microwave for warming coffee right at the desk :)

I'm not much of a bean person except in cold salads or as a part of Mexican food, so I'll pass on the Heinz canned beans lol.

@ Tomturbomatic:
you have hit the nail on the head! :) that was the point of the M.A.X microwave:)
I adore our whirlpool microwave, never had any problems with it ether :)

April 1st?

The USB standard is only good for 500ma (or 900ma for USB 3.0) at 5v DC. This makes for an input power of 2.5 of 4.5 watts. A bit anemic, hope the user isn't in a hurry for hot beans!

I smell a farce, was this an ad in the Onion?

Jack:

My own favorite beans are ALDI's Dakota Original Baked Beans - nice and flavorful. Our Heinz beans on this side of the pond aren't the same as the U.K. version. Our ALDI brands are different to yours, too.

There are a lot of British things I love - Branston pickle is great (a ploughman's sandwich is one of life's joys), and this is one Yank who loves Marmite.

yeah, but microwaves are pese', not healthy, ruins foods nutritional value.

Danger, Danger. I got rid of my microwave 2 years ago.

Just sayin'

I never liked Heinz beans, very stodgy and a lot of them broken up, as though they had been soaked or cooked too long. I would agree that beans on toast does taste better than you would expect, the whole seems better than the sum of the parts.

We tend to use the fan oven settings on our microwave more then the microwave settings, far better than the fan oven on our free-standing cooker!
