Anyone here watch today's CBS Sunday Morning?

First up they had a story about loading dishwashers, with a few shots of a 1950's electric sink. Turns out many many people don't know how to load a dishwasher.

Then a bit later they did a story on clotheslines and the outrage in some upscale neighborhoods. I'm not sure where I fall, I guess if you have an area that is not in public view, go for it, but I have no desire to see your underwear on the line when I walk or drive by.

They wrapped up with a story on Doris Day that many here might be interested in.

Well darn.......

I had to miss that show !

I live not too far from one of those "upscale" neighborhoods.
They walk around with their noses so high in the air its a
wonder they don't drown when it rains.
In "their" neighborhood kids arent allowed to have toys in the
front yard and no one has clothes lines. Its just against the
rules. These are the doctors, lawyers and gov't officials I'm talking about. They make the money and the wives spend it.

I'll bet most of their wives don't even know what the dishwasher looks like. They have people come in and take care of that sort of stuff.

I hang my clothes out to dry in the fresh air and sunlight.
I have for the past 50 years and have no intention of changing now. I'll put my white clothes against any of the "upper crusts" and I can pretty much guarantee that mine will be whiter.

If people see my undies hanging on the line while they are driving by then thats their fault. All they have to do is turn their heads and look the other way. I don't make people look at my clean clothes.

I've even had people stop and give me compliments on how white my white clothes are and wanted to know how I get them so white. (Yes, I do tell them)

Darn proud of you Butch-inNJ,

You have the right as a free, tax paying American to stand up and hang out your clean drawers. Judging from your statement here, I would be interested what would happen if anyone came knocking on your front door asking you to remove your clothes line:)

C B S Sunday Morn...

It is easy to get on that show and Bill G is a hoot...the vacuum guys were on it several years ago, it was a blast..I was a judge for the cleaning competetion so I got my ugly mug on there...several of the washer guys were there, im sure if anyone was interested we could get them to come to a wash in.

We have a retractable line we pull out once in a while. We've got a pretty good mix here in the 'hood and most are eco-minded so a clothes line fits right in. It's PC these days so only the ignorant would still frown upon their use.

I'm not going to hang my stuff outside. One of my neighbors does and I'm indifferent to it. We live in a nice neighborhood and I think they are the only ones that do. Not going to complain, but not going to encourage it.

I put up a clothesline, not really to dry clothes, because the dryer does fine for that. I use it to hang curtains to dry. When I use the dryer, they are wrinkly as hell and I'm not going to iron them. Running the washer on a slow spin ususally leaves them wet enough where the weight 'pulls' the wrinkles out. I also use the line for other wrinkle-prone linens, such as table skirting. I don't care about wrinkles in my sheets, I just throw them on the bed and go with it.

Clotheslines are still a nice thing to have.
