I just got in this Whirlpool WTW4816FW3 washing machine (made on 9th week of 2023), didn’t expect a machine this new to have bad bearings but once I spun the drum by hand I heard them roar. I get a lot of roaring VMWs but I don’t think I’ve recalled getting a 2023 with bad bearings maybe I did once.
Typical issue, once plugged in, pump came on right away.
I guess no fixing for this one. A new control board would allow it to function but it would roar like an airplane on spin cycle. The customer complained “it was loud on spin cycle, and now it keeps making noise when not on”. I immediately assumed control board and I thought maybe it’s been vibrating a bit because it’s fairly new, but NOPE, it’s bearings.
The cost to fix is as much as a new machine as it needs a gearcase and a control board.
And once I plugged it in, the drain kept running so obviously the board is bad. Common in these 2023 units.
Everything else is good I’ll be able to part out a lot on this thing but the board and gearcase are bad.
Have you’ve seen roaring on a fairly new unit? I know these VMWs are notorious for failing bearings but this one looked too new but I manually spun the drum anyways like I always do.
I also got in this Whirlpool WTW4816FW3 washer, this one is from the 26th week of 2024, this one has good bearings but also has a bad board and is stuck on drain mode, not part of recall as it was made in the 26th week of 2024.
The roaring one is part of the recall, tho.
Lately I’ve been seeing lots of unusual failures on VMW units.
Did you ever get a 2023 VMW with bad bearings, usually the ones with bad bearings are made in 2022 or before. Bearings don’t usually fail before 3 years.
