does anyone have some advice...have a WP powerclean with the normal WP dispenser on the RH side of the door with the single flap door, held by the catch against a small spring. Normally the door (with the gasket) is open, you close it against the spring and when it opens it flings open.

We closed the door on a too-thick detergent tablet and it sprung the spring (didn't break the door or the pin). the door now hangs there limply and doesn't let the tablet/pack fall into the sump

any advice on how you get the spring re-sprung? it's difficult because we're both big guys and there is no clearance on the RH side of the d/w to get close (effectively you're working at arms length)

My mother's dishwasher had the same problem. The spring was not placed properly, so it did not spring the door open when the catch moved. I was able to take it apart and then put it back together with the spring seated correctly. It took a some patience to as you have to properly place the two ends of the spring in the right spot and then wind it back to create the tension before snapping it in place. I can't explain it easily, but just keep in mind the spring needs to be wound so that it creates enough tension to keep the door open and hopefully you can figure it out.

Hopefully someone can explain it better!

Open, Sesame!

Okay, Big Guys,
Start by turning off the power to the dishwasher..then remove the front door panel. This should reveal the detergent dispenser and then follow the advice of Joe, above. When the door is working properly again, run a cycle to see if it opens and if all is good, then put the door panel back on and you should have no more trouble with it for years to come. And you can work from the front of the dishwasher for all of this.

You can also go to the WP website and download a parts breakdown for the machine so you can see a pictorial of the inner door and dispenser. They may even sell the spring if you should need one. Hope that helps.

REINSTALLING DET DISP DOOR SPRING

It is not necessary to take the door apart or even turn off the power. It is just necessary to re-tension the spring and hook it back over the little plastic tab that holds it tensioned. It is a little hard to describe how to do this but it only takes me 45 seconds and you only need a small flat blade screwdriver or even a nail file to do this.
