We've about bottomed out, while the 21st is the shortest day, sunset and sunrise "wobble" around that date.  We gain a bit in the evening but loose some in the AM. If I recall the latest sunrise is in early January, but by that point we've gained a few minutes of daylight in the evening so the day is technically longer.

I get a daily update from Bob Moler's blog, he's a bit west of me so the timings are just a bit off, but he always posts interesting celestial info.

The best thing about the holidays is that this short day BS bottoms out before they're over.  So much usable time outdoors is lost because it gets dark so early.  I loathe it.

California voters approved a measure last month to do away with the twice-per-year time change.  I'm hoping the yet to be determined switch is to year 'round DST.  Start school an hour later during the winter and the argument about kids walking in the dark has no basis.

Whether this even gets off the ground is a topic of discussion since it would require federal approval.

I agree we should stay on daylight savings time all year and not put the clocks back in the fall. Has anyone ever heard anyone say they love it getting dark before 5pm? Anyone? I have not in all my years

The only thing I see that's good about the daylight savings time is it forces me to get done earlier. Since it's already dark I feel like it's time to get washed up and eat and get done for the evening, but then I realize it isn't 8 PM or even 7 yet. The issue though is I still stay up too late. lol

I really like DST!  In the summer twilight is 10PM ish. If we skipped it I'd loose that hour of sunlight to the morning, ( sort of...).  I'm close to the western edge of the time zone, so sunset is about as late as it can be in the zone.  Those on the far east have it bad I imagine.
