It seems at least to Moi that eBay has been messing about with their site yet again.

By "default" search results now seem to be "worldwide" or at least something different than what it was before. Searches bring up sellers from Romania, Greece, and God only knows where else. Previously unless one checked "worldwide" you got things close to or in your zip code and or country by default.

We recently searched for new socks, the first 100 search results were either Chinese sellers and/or products made in China. Every single one of them. Methinks a lot of kickbacks are taking place at eBay.

Contrast that to Google, who have been busy intentionally lobotomizing their search results, stripping them of virtually all international content, freeware links, service and support content, and anything/everything unrelated to either sales or marketing. It's a catastrophe that can and will only get exponentially worse, until Google is forcibly nationalized, or our country creates its own (and unbiased by law) public search engine(s).

Ebay are trying to be Amazon/Retail style...

Have been selling up there for over 10 years. It is a right pain in the ars* lately. In the past year or two, they've messed about plenty and gravitated toward retail/catalogue style/Amazon.com orientation for sellers....and it obviously impacts buyers as well. It is truly horrible to deal with.....and so far from what their original purpose/goal/mission statement was. *HATE IT!!*

AltaVista

We learned on AltaVista in college--but it's now defunct, first folded into Yahoo! and then eventually wound down altogether.

Dogpile, a meta-search across multiple providers, still works, but it's not as useful as it used to be; it no longer searches Bing and Ask as well as Google and Yahoo. Now, it just does the two latter.
