I"ve noticed since I've had my Point Voyager KitchenAid that it seems to collect yibbles in the interior very easily. I take it apart and clean it every couple of months but stuff seems to build up quickly. I don't ever rinse and I usually run quite full loads, but my reverse rack Maytag never has this problem. The only place cruddy stuff accumulates in it is along the front of the tank under the door where the water line is. You can see below the backside of the feed arm, the outer sides of the upper rack rails and the sump, all have cruddies built up. It also seems to accumulate behind the door of the detergent dispenser and on the door behind the grab handle for the upper rack. This being said, it seems to clean just fine...although yibbles can sometimes be a problem with things in the upper rack. Do a lot of newer machines that use less and less water suffer from this problem or is it just perhaps the poorly designed constant rinse in this machine?

And of course the poor poor hydrosweep...once a beacon of cleaning power now just a collection of flimsy pipes. I think 50 GPM would probably split it in half!

No more truer words ever spoken.

I don't know the cause of this build up problem, but I would say it's poor design and an insufficient amount of water that was engineered when designing the machine.

I am just about to complete my arsenal of Vintage Dishwashers to last the rest of my life so if one machine fails and I can no longer get parts... I'll have another to use.

I really despise machines built past 2004. At least up until that year, they used more water than the squirt guns of today.

I don't notice this at all

in my 2014 Maytag point voyager.

I mean, it's doing it job if your dishes are clean, but if parts of the interior aren't clean, that would bug the hell out of me.

Remedial suggestion I'm sure....but have you tried running it empty once a month with a vinegar or Dishwasher Magic wash, on Sani?
Maybe that will help instead of taking it apart so often???

My 2007 Kenmore Elite didn't suffer from this problem.  I used high-tempo wash 99% of the time and ran some ssort of dishwasher cleaner through it about every 30 loads empty on heaviest soil cycle and high temp wash options.

whirlpool dishwher

My Whirlpool Gold point voyager dishwasher is the biggest piece of crap I have ever seen! Not only that, but it's the worst I have ever used! lasses don't come out clean! Period! The water pressure is fine! It works intermittently! The electronics are about to go! The model is GU2455xtsq1. The rinse aid dispenser leaks! One time, I started the dishwasher with door open! The spray power is fine! I am forced to use high temp wash all the time! I have to examine every dish I take out of the machine! I have tried every cycle and option combnation! I have tried every detergent and rinse aid! Nothing works!

@ Gelaundry4ever and @ Cheryl

As I said, I have a basically new (2014 Maytag stainless interior) that replaced a 2005 Whirlpool Point Voyager that died at 9.2 years mark. I had NO problem with the cleaning at all, I always used pots/pans, hi temp wash (no heated dry) and that was about 90 min's. I did this because it gives another rinse. My rinse aid dispenser DID leak too! When I got this new Maytag, they made major improvements with the rinse aid/detergent dispenser compared to the one I had. I put a camera in my point voyager WP I had and the spray was strong, this one is about the same in terms of that. I was expecting my new Maytag to have a cheaper feel than the 2005 WP simply because as each year goes by, in my mind, they cheapen things even more......but this maytag is night and day compared to the 2005 WP and feels much more sturdy overall and it looks so much better too. It's quieter but remains just as strong with the spray

Cheryl - If you're desperate to see the inside of your dishwasher while it's on, what I did, I put a really bright flashlight in the silverware container in a double zip locked bag, I then put a digital camera that I have in a double zip lock bag and ran it for about 5 min (way before the water gets too hot) I don't have much use for that digital camera because I now have a smart phone with a great camera, but it didn't harm the camera at all, I still have it.

whirlpool dishwasher update

I just took a load out of my Whirlpool dishwasher which came out sparkling again like it should. I just made sure that the dishwasher was on the correct settings. It could be hit and miss at times, but it could clean anything majority of the time. But then again, it's not made like the power clean. It's the point voyager which is just the updated version.

That is a crying shame.  cam2s, is that machine still under warranty? I would give service a chance to look it over.  That simply can not be right.  Art
